I have a syclone #1676 the truck is really clean it has 9,900 miles on it! My buddy has a 68 camaro ss that is a clean and solid street car that he wants 18,500 for. what do you guys think my truck is worth,I was thinking about trading him straight up, and he is on board with the idea I just dont know if I would be getting the short end of the stick or not. I have been wanting a 1st gen camaro for a while now and they aren't getting any cheaper. and I am tired of having a piece of garage furniture that I wont drive cause I dont want to put miles on it. in a nutshell do you guys think my truck is worth over 20,000 I am willing to take a little hit for something that I want.

Hi, and welcome, IMO its more of a personal choice, a sy just sold for I think 24k and it had damaged cladding, soon sytys market will sky rocket but for now classics control the market, remember thers only a handful of sys wit those miles, im sure in a few years sytys will be at around the 30k if kept clean and original,
Ill stick to the sytys for now, but I will kill for a 69 DD camaro
Any pics of both rides.

Re: help me decide

Need more info on the Camaro. Matching numbers. Transmission type. Options. Specific condition. What parts are original, what parts are repo. Is it a SS 350 or a L35 or a L34 or a L78. For the price I doubt it is a L89.

Make sure it is a true SS!

Even if it is a small block, the market value can very easily be more than the Sy (depending on its overall condition) and it will always be more than the Sy. I think the market peaked for our trucks years ago and it will never come to that level again. Yes, low mileage trucks become more rare as time goes on but like yourself, the guys that have very low mileage are not driving the trucks so they will still be there when the guy decides to sell. That may sound like a contradiction but you get the point. You'll see some high prices once in a while, but it is not the norm.

Get some specific info on the Camaro. Email me what you can obtain. I can provide a value based on the info provided.

Re: help me decide

Sy all the way. I don't know the number's on 1st gen SS camaro's but it seems like Sy's are alot rarer. Besides that the Sy is alot more subtle and that's what makes these trucks so cool IMO; the kid in the ricer knows the Camaro is fast but when he see's a sonoma pull up they laugh... for a few seconds. To me personality and uniqueness are worth more than cash. Not a Camaro guru by far so this is just my 2 cents.

Re: help me decide

The camaro is an ss350 w/ 4speed and 12 bolt, but it isnt a #'s match car. the engine in it is a 350 that has been built and it is pretty stout. When you come down to it the car is just an $18,000 street car not perfect but not a puddy wagon. I just dont want to trade my truck for the car and find out I could have sold my truck for $24,000, taken that money and bought a big block car. I was going to sell the truck and buy a camaro but I dont want to lose my butt. what would be a good asking price for my truck I have pics of it that I can e-mail.

Re: help me decide

If you are the original owner of the Syclone with documentation of all the maintenance records and it has never been damaged, touched up or modified, personally I would keep it. Values "normally" rise on specialty vehicles when they eclipse the 20 year mark and you can take a guess where the Syclone is positioned as I type. Don't believe this hogwash that the Syclone has peaked in value or you will be disappointed in the future. Nice Syclones in general have already begun to pull more money (and IMO, yours is probably worth $15-17,500 tops in todays market and that might be a stretch) but that said, I would definately NOT trade it off for a non-# matching small block Camaro SS.

The money is in the 396 numbers matching M-22 4 speed Camaro's. Buy a large poster of one and hang it in your garage so you can look at it when you go out and look at your Syclone. Hold out for the best!!!!

Put it on ebay, set the reserve at $45,000 and you can find out what your truck is really worth. Last year, a 4 digit odometer, original owned Syclone 1 hour from me in KY could NOT even pull a $14,500 "buy it now" bid although it was the third time it was listed in about a 4 week span. Owner finally gave up.....maybe it was you. Where are you located ;).

Re: help me decide

I would say assuming camaro is in good shape the values are similar. Even a modded camaro when done right brings big money, in fact most cases more (assuming done right).

So it then comes down to enjoyment. Sounds like you might enjoy something you can drive vs look at.

Re: help me decide

I had a 69 Camaro for 27 years. I spent a lot of money on the car and it was very nice. The 1st gen Camaro are the best looking cars ever built IMO.

I sold it to buy a Typhoon and am very happy with my decision. They are not fun to drive more than a few minutes at the time. Sure they are fast. But are rough riding and most have no A/C. The Camaro is much easier to work on though.

But like Jeff said. It is a personal decision.

Jimmy,
I will e-mail you some pics of the truck when I get home from work, if you could post them up that would be great.

Re: help me decide

Every camaro that I have looked at in the past 3 months has been over $20,000,that is ones worth looking at, and they were small block cars. I do not have the extra money to go eyeball deep in debt to buy a BB car that is commanding $40,000+ prices. This car that I looked at has minor flaws, really wasn't finished out properly after it was painted, and I have looked at some that were not as straight and the price was quite a few thousand more. I am fine with a non #'s match car I want a clean solid driver to play with for a couple years then tear it down and start building a yenko clone.

Re: help me decide

If you want a 69 Camaro than go for it.

I personally wouldn't do it. I had the option of getting my Dad's 70 440 Challenger, I am just a not old Muscle Car person, besides the old Corvette.

IMO Future SyTy prices are up in the air, I could see the prices going either way. I think once the economy get better in the next couple years, that will be when we will be able to better judge the values. If the economy improves and the prices don't rise up by year 25, our trucks will mostly just be novelties. Some interest but not enough demand to make them truly collectible.

Re: help me decide

dgoodhue,
I read you loud and clear man. I have been sitting on this truck for at least ten years now and I dont know if I should just dump it and get what I want or wait a little longer Like T-bone said they are 20 yrs old now it's just too bad the economy sux right now. But on the other hand it is the time to buy and I would say the market will bounce back a tad quicker on a gen 1 camaro than on a syclone, but who knows. Maybe if they make another fast and furious movie with one in it all the little ricers would want one and drive the price up!

Time will tell but there has been no upward trend lately.

Speaking of the "Market". A once in a while sale of a super low mileage truck does not set the whole market. Have to look at the big picture.
