Hissing from speakers

I have an aftermarket sound system in my truck and it has been the same setup for at least 7-8 years now. Yesterday I took out the radio to change the panel with the vents with one that wasn't cracked. Took my time put everything back as it was and now all of a sudden I get this hissing sound out of the speakers. So dam annoying. Even with the radio off I get the noise. I took it out about ten times to double check everything and seems the same. Look over all the wires made sure they all had slack nothing what the hell could be causing this.

Unplug the rca cables from the back of radio see if noise gets better. Then post up results.

Re: Hissing from speakers

Need to narrow down the source of nouse If noise goes away its coming from the radio if it's the same its in the amp. Tell me what to look for next. Finding noise is always a process of elimination. In most case hissing is the cause of running to much gain on the amp. In vinnys case it was fine them he disturbed somthing behind the radio and the noise appeared. Just need to fine the source

Re: Hissing from speakers

Planned to do this tomorrow. Will post up findings and hope to find a solution. Really don't want to drive to Carlisle with this annoying sound. Fingers crossed I get it resolved before then.

Try plugging them back in and unplugging one at a time. At this point u know the radio isn't introducing the noise. so we need to figure out witch cable is . Plug one at a time back in and see it its just one set. or one single cable makes it his hiss. the next test will be to run a test set from the radio to the amp over the center of the truck no need to run this wire the right way, laying on the console is fine. If the noise is gone you have a bad rca just replace them all 3 pairs. It will be hard to hear the hiss threw the set for the subs so use the front and rear for your testing one at a time If you still have noise after running test rcas you most likely have a issue with the amp. Check for a good clean ground. Also make sure you not running the gains more than 65% the lower the better. If your confused call me 609 820 0979

Thanks Frank. Just to give you some more information as i was troubleshooting it for some time since i came home. Tried a different radio ground location and same thing so i put it back where it was. I unplugged one wire at a time and it seems that when i have two rca cables i get no hiss once i start adding the others no matter which other four the hiss comes back. The hiss does go away when i unplug the square cable which i think goes to the hide a way unit under the seat even if i have all 6 RCA cables plugged in. Can that cable cause this or is it an rca cable only. I have rca cables just not log ones to go to the back i guess i will need to see if i can get one to troubleshoot. Worst case maybe i can show you it at Carlisle. I just might pull the fuse until i get down there. Maybe i can sing to myself hahah.

Just to add more information to this issue....When i turn the ignition key in the back position i do not get this noise. What the hell can it still be an RCA?

Re: Hissing from speakers

Thanks Dave for the information i appreciate it.

Today i took out the front and rear seats and replaced the three RCA cables. I rewired the ground and the positive wire and it didnt make a difference. Its a hiss noise, motor noise its all there. I even checked the gains on the amps and they are less than half way, exactly where they have been since day one. I'm lost what else can this be.

Re: Hissing from speakers

I would pull the plug off the alternator and remove the charge wire going to the battery and then start it up. I have had some noise problems from alternators that have a bad diode but still charge.

Re: Hissing from speakers

I was thinking the alternator as well. I will try it tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks

I had the same issue, I changed the alternator no change until I installed a Pyramid NS12 12 Amp In Line Noise Suppressor from Amazon.

Well it's not alternator. Just tested it with the steps you indicated and still same thing.

Thanks goose will look into it but the confusing thing is I never had this issue for seven years than all of a sudden. I hope it's not the amp itself.

Re: Hissing from speakers

After all the work troubleshooting this issue it is still not resolved. I have a feeling i messed up the radio when i removed it to switch out the dash bezel piece that surrounds the radio. Even though i was very careful something must have touched. I usually disconnect battery but i cant remember if i did that day for what ever reason. Anyway thanks everyone for all there help. I will post an update once i get the new radio i ordered last night.

Re: Hissing from speakers

I had an issue earlier this year and used my phone and a 3/16 stereo to rca cable to isolate a problem between a head unit, patch cables and amplifier. You might try that in the meantime
