History of the ultimate chip in one picture

Over the years I have been collecting broken and partially missing ultimate chips and hardware. I have almost all of the hardware and even a custom one. Here is a picture.



As of tonight all of them work! I have no idea why I started collecting them but I have all of the following:

Lower left - original 10 n1 chip

Upper left - big box ultimate. This one has a neat LCD that displays something like 15 PSI STREET (T1)

Upper middle - Gauge style ultimate with knock light and push button lock. 4 character green text display T115 - T324 SEC and VAL

Upper middle right - radar style manual lock red 4 character display text T115 - T324 SEC and VAL

Upper right - Gauge style ultimate for 50lb injector with knock light and push button lock. 4 character green text display T1F1 - T2F7 SEC and VAL

Middle - custom fitting of a radar style ultimate in the ash tray. I almost wish this was the big box ultimate in there!



Am I missing any?

I have seen a 10 n 1 also mounted in the ash tray and I dumbly sold off my prompaq but I hope others enjoy this or should like to share their multi chip images...

Nice collection. These are cool part of syty history. I always liked the knock indicator.

Mine only goes 2 levels for timing and fuel, no third, also for 50lb injectors and a 3bar. There are probably other variations of the gauge style.

Probably my mistake, I will write down what it does rather than trust my crappy memory and update the first post!

I had a brand new PromPaq in the box and sold it also. Sort of wish I had kept it.

I have collected many Sy chips. Had most of the ATR series. All the KB and Hypertech. And the Jet. No Lee Howie or Conley.

Recently seen a prompaq on Craig's list.. Was not even sure what it was as it was listed as a pompaq

The prompaq never worked perfect. I had one just because the malboro's had them. Not sure I even want to keep all of these but I could never test them. Now that my truck runs I burned the chips and tested them this weekend and got them working!

I now have all of the following ultimate bins.

The ones from Tooky at powertuneplus

V6
V7
V10
V11

50lb
V4 - Stock Motor
V2 - Vortec heads

Got these off some other people's
Big Box ultimate
50lb L35 heads

Anyone have any other versions?

Pretty sure the ashtray one won "Best Mod" at a Nats I was at,and that pissed me off because I had a toggle switch for TC lockup installed in the plastic sill plate right beside the drivers seat.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. From what I recall, the original 4-1 and 8-1 were first available in the winter of 1998. These were 2 bar programs with variable boost settings from like 14-18 psi, the limit that could be controlled using the 2 bar MAP. Then, using a larger memory EPROM, the 10-1 came out with a circuit board design that enabled the use off all 10 positions of the binary switch that was used at the time. This came out in early 1999.

Sometime around the 1999 Nat's Brian Green came into the picture and the 10-1 hardware and his 3 bar programs merged to form the Ultimate chip. An LCD display was used to display the current setting so you didn't have to memorize numbers. This was kind of a large bulky unit, but one I preferred over the later "radar detector" style and 2" gauge style because of the large display. By the 2000 Nat's this chip package was available with the larger box, with the radar and gauge style available in 2001. 50# injector calibrations were also added around 2001.

Unfortunately the processor used to control the device was discontinued in 2004 and due to decreased demand, there was no redesign and the production stopped.

At the 2000 Nat's Ron Gregory had made a prototype ALDL readout that mounted in the dash. There was an effort to merge it with the Ultimate chip to make a "gauge" that could display any ALDL parameter such as knock or IAT etc. with the ability to also change calibrations on the fly. This thing would have been really cool but the parties involved were starting to go in different directions after being heavily involved with the scene since 1991/92 and it was never completed although there was one prototype that worked (kind of).

This website sytychips.com is still up, but there is no support for the chips any longer. There is no way to service them or make them. All the parts needed are obsolete. The website has good info on the last iterations of these chips.

Anyone know who has my old Typhoon, production #1548, VIN 1537?

If you're interested, I have a brand new one, never used, with all screws, paperwork, etc. I might even be willing to trade it for one of the transfercase input shafts ;)
