Holding power for launch???

I need to improve my launch and I'm working on a couple of things, but brakes seem to be an issue. I can only raise about 4 lbs of boost before the brakes won't hold.
I've been checking out the hydroboost setup. Has anyone used a roll control on a syty with any success? A transbrake is out of the question for now, because I have a brand new Waller 700r4.
Give me your opinions/experience please!

I think the hoovers used an electric vacuum pump that seemed to work very well. Cheapish and easy setup.

Re: Holding power for launch???

I put two long brake shoes and 7/8 wheel cylinders on each back drum and can hold 14-15 psi at the line. I haven't tried to launch it harder than that yet.....

9 times out of 10 it is not your brakes it is your technique or your tune. my truck with a gtq 74 and a 3000 stall 9/11 could hold any boost i wanted.

btw my 2 other stock tys and sy will all hold 12-14 before the back wheels spin but the trucks still dont move.

Are the rears spinning or are you pushing hrough the brakes?

I have 7/8 rear wheel cylinders and a 3000 stall 9/11 tc. I'm working on the tune. Its pushing through the brakes.

HYDRO BOOST

I launched @ 28 PSI the other night. Never pushes any more.

Of course I put on a nice show doing that seeing I was almost sideways all the way past the 60' box smoking all 4 wheels. :D

Have you tried bleeding the front brakes? I usually find pushing through the brakes at 4psi is either technique error (not reving in N and hold the brakes hard) or air in the front brakess.

Re: Holding power for launch???

The only time I had an issue of pushing through the breaks was when my abs module was on it's way out.. if you still have abs that could be the problem

I wish, Almost emptied the bleachers though after I pulled back into the staging lanes :)

I am welding in a camcorder mount to the rollbar tomorrow. Should have plenty of video to show anyone interested later this week.

I had the same issues. The stock brakes suck. Brake fade is a serious issue. I upgraded to the C5 brakes and now can hold the truck still without any effort at all.

Re: Holding power for launch???

are you shifting to neutral then giving it some gas while pressing down hard on the brake pedal?

if you do that until the pedal stops going down then shift it in to drive you should be able to hold a little bit more boost off the line.

Re: Holding power for launch???

a little in the dark, is everyone's problem that they push through the front brakes?? or that they can't get the rear brakes to hold??

cause my front brakes will hold 10psi+ without budging, but my rear drums let go at about 4psi, and the backend kicks out to the side.

Re: Holding power for launch???

Most of the holding Boost problems come from the rear brakes. Try adjusting them way up and you should be able to hold more than 4-5 psi with a stall converter.

Another thing could be if your converter is broke and not stalling up to 3000 rpm. just a thought.

Re: Holding power for launch???

OK, I'm going to go to both long shoes in the back and bleed the system. I have the abs deleted. Hopefully this will help. If not, I may go to the hydroboost system.

Re: Holding power for launch???

When doing the LS1 brakes can the stock wheels stll be used? Would I also need to use a different master cylinder like a Hydro-Boost? Thanks
