Re: Hood question

I remember a topic like this a while ago... As far as I know there's only 1 carbon fiber hood out there for our trucks that a guy had custom made. Looks badass too. I want it.

The thread is here. Endeavors like that have aways been and will ALWAYS be doomed because people won't agree on a design...

Re: Hood question

I had fiberglass cowl on my last mustang and after a few years of use and from some heat I guess... the hood warped slightly which had me dead set on metal for my sy concidering sy's put out alot more underhood head then a supercharged fox... I was concerned with possible weight savings though with going fiberglass... so a somewhat affordable carbon fiber hood would be on the list of mods for me if it ever happened... If you browse thru ebay you'll see the cf hoods for the jap cars are actually cheaper the 80% of fiberglass or metal hoods for our trucks.. wonder why no s10 guys atempted carbon fiber.. think of the market you'd hit out there.. maybe someone s hould shoot an email to one of the cf hood makers to open there eyes to how many 1st and 2nd gen s trucks there are out there

Re: Hood question

Oddly enough, I have two perfect SY hoods on the bench getting modified for mold plugs for one of our members here and myself.
They are for Resin infused Carbon Fiber bolt-on parts and "no"...they aren't going to be cheap or plentyful either.
The reality is, to make a proper full CF hood that is structured right and can live, their are certain things that MUST be done and it definatly sets the work apart from that of the Fiberglass parts.
If the price of a full CF hood ( above 1000$) isn't feasable for someone I'd suggest going the route of a glass cf laminated heavy chunk of a hood for 5-700$ ....and "no" I want no part in doing that, but thanks. ;)
I'll only make about 10-12 of these over the course of a year and a half.If that. I have too many other Cf projects to contend with at the moment.

Re: Hood question

all I know is that if someone produced doors and fenders in cf they'd sell like hot cakes providing you didn't have to take out a second mortgage to afford them.
