Re: How is this possible?

This is the problem right there. Why is it that if someone doesn't want to be treated like shit, they are thinned skinned? One of the most thinned skinned person on this forum throws temper tantrums, talks down to people, and then deletes all of his posts and no one bats an eye. He dissappears for awhile and starts the process all over again. And all this happens just for simple fact that someone simply doesn't agree with him.

Or could it be that these trucks are just fading away in popularity? Vendor support isn't what it used to be from when I first joined. Even some of the vendors have crap customer support. Let's face it, there isn't much money to be made for such a small group of trucks. People sell stuff at good prices and people lowball the crap out of the sellers. Members want the price of SyTys to go up but lowball people selling their trucks. I'd agree that Facebook is a big contributor to the forums losing popularity. Any national meets are held on the east coast, but I'll agree that's not the only factor in that aspect. There are many factors that have built up over the years and now here we are.

Being new here, and trying to be active I have to agree with Damian. Although I must admit I would not have even gotten my truck running, much less running good without this forum. All the info I used I found searching very old threads. I have found that if anybody try's to go off the beaten path of mods or repairs, the "established" members on this forum start calling names and saying what a fool people are. I also see the amount of people that buy these trucks and for whatever reason be it money or capability, just are unable to get them right. This causes everybody who are trying to help to "dumb down" their advice. There is not a better resource anywhere in the world for syty information than this site right here. Anything you could dream of has been discussed and or resolved. I hope the new generation of syty owners can use the tools available on this site to fix and advance their trucks. That's the only way you learn the love necessary to continue to keep these needy beasts on the road.

Wish I could be 25. :rotf: Our youth is gone forever. Keep it fun and worthwhile.

Merry Christmas all.

Re: How is this possible?

Our forum format allows a sub forum of off topic so that individual posts can be created under it. I don't see the issue or how this would be seen as a negative? I much rather have searchable off topic titles than dealing with trying to sift through hundreds of pages of BS to find a particular post in the midst of everyone elses random posts.

Besides, the "picture thread" and "what you did today" thread all follows a specific subject matter, not a cluster*ck of information.

Nothing stopping you starting a clusterfck thread Damian! Don't think you'll get many participants though! :D

Don't think of it as a cluster ****. The only time it can be a cluster **** is if someone posts a funny pic or meme from a week ago and you want to find it again. Look, I'm just throwing out ideas that I've seen be popular on other forums. It would pretty much be Facebook (in general) all wrapped up into one thread. Just an idea.

Although I understand what it is your suggesting, I don't think this forum and its members could fathom such a heterogeneous off topic discussion. Someone would for sure flip a lid, hell im just glad we haven't seen a political debate thread like I've seen on other forums. So let's keep it on track.... 92-25 years woot! :cake:

This is patently untrue. Not saying there's no attitude here, but name calling is actually pretty rare. There might be one or two characters that go down that path, but in general the forum is a place that wants to see new SyTyers succeed.

I can speak from my personal dealing with you that your attitude was the cause of your problems stated. Of course thinking back to that dealing and your overall attitude/demeanor, I doubt you would have the balls to admit it openly let alone to yourself.

What I find creepy about the 9 or 10 years that have passed from the posted thread is that it really does go by faster and faster like Don said. I realized that when I was about 35. Now I'm 40 and feel like when 50 rolls around it will have seemed like 2 years. Which means that in a way, my time til death will kind of double as time goes on.

Nope, but I can sure handle safety only from here on out. I'm going to celebrate by daily driving her from here on in 2017. She has been in the garage for too long.

Anybody that links meth to their name I refuse to take seriously. I openly admitted and apologized for my misplaced comments. You must of forgot about that. I also openly admitted to making a stupid mistake. I wonder if your parents did the same when you were born. Your an asshat, everytime you post you prove how weak and diluted your dna is.

Re: How is this possible?

78¢ on this thread becoming the discussed thread :sly:

I MUCH prefer forums to facebook. Social media, IMO, blows donkey balls when used the way most people use them, and each new "media outlet" that comes along seems to be progressively worse. IDGAFF about 99.999999% of what is posted, linked, spammed, forwarded, commented on etc. Most of the time when I read news articles with comments linked through FB, I want to reach through the screen and beat the posters anyway.

The only plus I can see is for organizing events, keeping in touch with certain people, etc. Other than that, I don't need to see sob stories and day to day bs, definitely don't care about peoples' meals and opinion on every possible topic in existence.

A lot of guys around here do meth, some are so cheap that they cut it with water before using it

Just to make note.... I do my very best to keep the SyTy FB group 100% about SyTy. I delete posts on almost a daily basis that doesn't pertain or even remotely link to SyTy. I can't help outside of that what shows up in your feed or the stupidity of some peoples views or comments....but at least you know the group is policed as best as possible to keep it free of bullsh!t.

How is this possible?

Trying to steer this back on topic "well general topic" of how the hell has 5yrs gone by. I remember going to my friends house after school to look at his Syclone almost on a daily basis. It was then I joined syty.net in 2001, following my first vehicle. My Sy. So in short "17yrs" I'll tell my story. Feel free to tell yours, or we can just keep bitching at each other and complaining about shit that doesn't matter from today or tomorrow.

As soon as a could scrap together a extra few hundred dollars working part time I'd spend it on the Sy. As responsible and meticulous I was with the truck at age 16 I was still getting frequently involved with the illegal street racing scene here in the Houston area. The street racing scene I departed from after having to many close calls with the law and steered away from the troubles of what might come. After several years the law started getting worse on street racing. (Granted they should) I kept involved on the forum and learning hands on what I could with the trucks. Parking the Sy with a broken 60k trans in 05 was my last ride with it. I beat the living piss out of that truck trying to tune it for the track, looking for that 11 second pass with an 50# ultimate, Meth, A2A and a PTE52. Young and eager for more I decided to do a full build on the block going vortecs (over spending on probably around 8k). The truck to this day lacks the trans, fuel cell, BS3 and a turbo to hit the road again.

Unfortunately with the newly acquired Teal Ty my lack of funding and motivation for the Sy has led me here (still on stands). The Ty has been great to me, and sense wearing out the motor at 120k and doing a rebuild on the trans and motor I feel like it deserves the respect to not get beat on at the track (besides a few circuit racing events that I'll never forget). I have put the Ty to a level of respect I should have shown the Sy. Understanding that a few thousand extra dollars is hard to come by with other responsibilities and future plans. I've done hard work over the years and spent what I had saved on a land purchase in 2015 where I'd like to build a home and move too as soon as finances allow it. Believe me, throwing 6-7grand into the Sy to finish it was not even on the agenda. I had been looking for land for 2 years, the Sy which once was my priority had changed.

Nothing but priorities have changed for me, my passion is still here and I continue to check the forums daily and help locals with there projects. The thought of selling it all hasn't crossed my mind. But it's tough to forget all the long hours and money you have into something that once was a dream. I'm looking forward to starting 2017 driving the Ty and putting roughly 500 miles a month on her. She's up for it, and so am I. I haven't daily driven her in a few years. The Sy will get done some day, but for now it's on the back burner. That sums up 17 years of my SyTy life, and the bitch who started it all :fist:

Re: How is this possible?

Way back in 2002 (it does NOT seem like 14 years) I was looking for something to tinker with. My brother-in-law, at the time, was teasing me with his beautiful restored 1950 Pontiac Catalina Sport Coupe. 2 door hardtop to you youngins. So anyway perusing the want adds I see this add for a 1991 GMC Syclone. What the heck is a Syclone I say?? A little internet search and wow this looks cool. I make an appointment to see the guy. Take a look, go for a ride and, later, decide to buy the thing. Drove it, went to a few car shows. Nobody seemed to care what I had. So a few years in I go to the drags. Now mind you I hadn't been to the drags in literally close to 50 years. Had great time. Lots of neat folks. Some even knew what a Sy was. Haven't looked back. Hasn't been cheap. This is the 3rd motor. This year I found an issue that had been plaguing me for literally the last couple of years and now the truck is quick and fast and reasonably consistent. Actually won a few races after about a 2 year drought. Truck is driven to and from the track, makes the occasional dump run and I take it out for the fun of it. I'm not yet the oldest driver at the track though so we'll see what the future brings.

I don't like the bickering but in general for the years I've been here the place has helped me tremendously. I've met a some of you and and enjoyed it. (Dave P., Mike in Colorado Springs and Ray AKA YAR. Hope he's doing OK). I've made bad/incorrect posts and humbly accepted your corrections. If I had to quit tomorrow I'd have to say it's been a fun ride.

Re: How is this possible?

I joined the forum back in 2001 when I was still in high school and didn't even have my driver's license yet. I had seen Syclones and Typhoons listed in DuPont Registry, and thought they were awesome, so an internet search one day when I was bored led me to this site. I met some local owners shortly thereafter, and after about 3½ years I bought my Ty from one of them. It does not at all seem like 12 years since I bought my Ty, or nearly 16 years since I joined.

Re: How is this possible?

I'm not even sure what I was doing 10 years ago LOL and I don't quite remember where I initially saw Syclones and Typhoons, but I do remember being excited and having both in Forza 4 so that was back in 2011/2012. I had owned two third gen camaros and an 03 Buick Regal GS prior to picking up the Typhoon that I saw on CL for $6500 and I spent about every penny I had to buy it on a whim without knowing any of the intricacies of it. The first thing I did was ignition parts replacement and moates ostrich.

It looked really good when I bought it and I had intended on it being a summer vehicle only but as it turned out my girlfriend bought a turd of a car and ended up inheriting my Regal for getting around and the Ty became my DD.

On the first decent snow fall, about half of the cladding started sagging, cracking, and falling off due to previous "body work," for lack or a better term :sly: I sold off the cladding and decided to hold off on any kind of body work until I could afford to have it done properly and as close to mint as possible.

Since then, I've only had to do minor maintenance up until the transmission rebuild a few months ago and currently it is sitting in the garage, in pieces, waiting for an engine--unfortunately the engine and trans rebuild couldn't have had some time between them. I can't complain too much because it sits at 18x,xxx and I have gotten over 40,000 hard (and fun!) miles out of it in the two and a half years I've owned it.

My plans are to get it back to DD status this coming year, 2017 for #2017 lol. My goal is a reliable 450-500hp as the trans was built to accommodate 650 ftlb and it seems like going much over 500 exposes a lot more weaknesses. From there it will be suspension work, probably coilovers and 4 link, and if everything stays in working order I'll start getting the cladding back on so it doesn't look like junk  though I only attended the Midwest meet last year, I had a great time and I hope to attend more events in the future when time and driveability allow, but its a good community to be a part of so far
