How much knock is normal with a stock setup?

How much knock is exceptable with stock chip, turbo and ic ? only have the basic modes like upgraded ic pump, lines rerouted, 180 stat, kn, taylors and a few others that don't really matter.

The truck is almost due for it's 3k tune up again but just wondering what is normal or what I I should expect to see in datamaster because I see numbers like 6 or 5 kr around 13psi for example.

Thanks in advance.

i get 9-12 knock while running 13.1 @ 102 with a chip and ic pump. false knock, i dont know, but am tired of looking for it since it runs good anyway.

Zero is preferred, less than 5 is somewhat *acceptable*, taken with a grain of salt.

Anymore than 5deg, and something is not right, and chances are damaging is being done.

I was asking my self the same. I'm not asking for it, but why in the hell my truck dosn't get any knock at all? I was always used to hear all these post complaining about knock and I just don''t seem to get it??? At least everytime I run datamaster I punch it and keep it till I hit 15PSI I keep steping on it for a copule of seconds and I don't get any??? Could something be wrong with datamaster??? I only get it if I kick the throttle softly and fast it goes up to like 3 degrees and goes down or if I rev it in neutral. then I immediately punch it to 15 psi and it completely desapears!

Right now my IC pump is not working and I still don't get knock. I'm not asking for it but I would like to know if this is abnormal, if it's luck? or Is my truck modded in anyway that I don't know???

Running my stock Ty on 93 octane (at 6,000 feet) I get about 3 points of knock, maybe 5 at most, but only momentarily.

I am running a 160 thermostat as my only mod.

Buick guys say less than 3 is acceptable at least historically.

I like to see 1 degree "once in while" to at least know that I am on the performance edge.
Knock is bad, but so is a sluggish truck due to no advance in my book.

Are you running a KB chip?

Are you asking me??? Well, I don't have a clue... How do I know???

Not something to F with IMO....unless your just joking, :D or have an endless supply of cash to blow on a motor.

Seriously though....
I'd be pulling that ecm down, to make 100% sure. If your stock memcal is piggybacked to anything, you might want to take it out till you find out what chip it is.

If it is a stock chip, and you don't have any knock....than your all set to try a more aggressive approach.

Thanks for the info guys... I was just wondering, but noticed that I now have a 02 lean error in dm so that could be a cause to the added knock that Im seeing.... I was getting this error a few weeks ago and replaced a cracked vac line which seem to cure the problem til now. Any ideas what this could be other then a leaky vac line?? does it actually mean that my 02 sensors are beat? Also I was told by previous owner of my truck that it has a wb 02 setup.. does this matter?

Thanks for the help.

Boostedpimp, what fuel pump do you have? If it's stock I'd plan on buying a Walbro 255LTR/HR "High Pressure" pump model GSS340M for about $110 from www.autoperformanceengineering.com.

If you "think" you have a wide band O2 sensor, I'd recommend you check out your truck thoroughly to find exactly what you've all got there. I know where you're coming from, it took me over a year to do that and I still dont know what's all in mine. But at least when I dropped the ECM I found factory stickers still protecting the original AXXA PROM chip which matches my low VIN (#0044), so that was some peace of mind.

Tooky.. I was told by the previous owner that I have a walbro pump (not sure if it's a "high pressure" unit) and he also said that it did have a wb 02 setup.. Not sure why the 02wb setup but yah I have to dig into the truck really well, but haven't had anytime for that and wheather here really sucks.. so that will wait til spring time... anyhow how can I tell if I actually have a walbro or any upgraded pump? if there is a way of telling instead of taking the bed off that is...

Thanks

Well I wouldn't worry about the difference between the regular Walbro 307 and the 340 (High Pressure) version, just as long as you don't have the stock pump. I guess I'd take his word for it unless you really wanna dig into it, here is a guide that shows how to access the fuel pump without completely removing the bed, and with only 1 man. http://webpages.charter.net/syclone2550/fuel.htm
