Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

i wouldnt worry to much about the top shock mount.

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

I installed mine on my '91 4dr S10 in 2009 and have over 8,000 miles of hard driving with no issues at all. 600# rate rides 1000% better, and handles GREAT!! Thanks Smaug and Turbo Time!!! I'd have more miles but I live in Costa Rica and this is my 'States driver!

So, is this still offered as a kit, or is it soemthingyou piece together yourself from summit, the turbotime website is gone, and RPM only seems to have the kit with the A arms included.

it looks like it could be done for around 4-5 hundred, but i see something about having to machine the spring mounts, which has me worried

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

We still offer the coilover kits front and rear. Single and Dual spring setups. All kits are special order prepay only. I currently have 1 set of stackers left for a Dual Spring setup. All kits take roughly 10-14 business days to ship once the order is placed.

We no longer have online ordering. If you are interested in anything we might have please send an email to jax (at) turbotime (dot) us

New Parts for Old Trucks
Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

When I started planning for this , I only had the coil diameter and collapsed/extended shock specs to go by . Honestly , any similar length shock with a 600lb thin coil could be made to work if ones handy .

There are easier options still yet to be discovered . I know a few air cylinders I held recently would fit . A direct install with no frame grinding could be possible IMO . The option of returning to stock when values skyrocket would be nice too .

Our house remodel is finally coming to an end so I'll start another thread for that when i get more parts in hand . Just when my wife thought 2 spare closets full of parts "is surely all he'll need."

This is the last (I've said that before) mod I want to do to my new truck to make it everything I've always wanted my Ty to be. I have always postponed this mod due to cost of the RPM kits. I'm sure that the tubular a-arms that correct the balljoints angles have got to help but I still can't justify that cost. I'm going to start looking into this setup a little futher. If I can cut off some weight and get a better ride than torsion bars for the right plrice I may have to bite the bullet. Been following this write for a loooong time.

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

I'm starting to put a kit together and the spring PN seem to have changed, and I can't find a set over 500lbs, I must be looking in the wrong place. Everything else I can find, without springs I'm seeing just under 400.

The only other thing I'm not sure of is the machined spring cups, It looks like you guys are taking the cups off the shocks and machining the ID of the cup to accept a spring thats slightly smaller, will a mahcine shop be able to do this?

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

since you're (MRKING) are the only one (that i know of) to do this and you haven't driven the truck to find out how it drives...i'm (and maybe others) still a little leary but, it does look promising.
.

Have had this setup installed on my truck for about two years now. I think they're 550lb springs on mine, i don't remember???
It drives like its on rails. I also have removed the torsion bars, installed 2inch drop blocks on the rear along with set back plates, shorty shocks, battle bars, and RPM sway bars front and back. Also getting some help from a new steering shaft, 15inch custom steering wheel, and fresh pitman arm.

Hypercoil is the only spring manufacture I would suggest. They are not that expensive anyways so no need to skimp. QA1 springs are known to be not so great in the racing world.

I think i used Eibach's from Summit racing. The rate was 600# or so since I have an extended cab frame. No idea what the part number is until I get home.

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

I cannot find anyone that carries by the old part number we were using (9A0600) other than autopartsdealer who seems to be charging for 2 springs at a time, but I called and they say they are per single (174 dollars). I called a couple distributor already and they all give me diff part numbers than eachother for a 2.25 8 inch 600 pound spring, and have never head of the part number listed on this site. One PN I heard more than once was 8b0600, but they didn't have a price or availability. I called hypercoil and they are on summer shutdown...which is why I asked here i figured someone would know. I guess I'm a dumbass for asking, sorry

174 for a Hypercoil is alot. I don't remember exactly what I paid but it was something like 40/spring.

Re: How to install stock arm coil overs

How is the ride with 600 lb coils? I'm running 550's on my 2wd with QA1s and it's rock hard. Is the front end on a sy/ty that much heavier or is the leverage ratio different on the control arms?
