25,000 mile sy

pte kit W/63 turbo
headers
l35 heads ported and matched with intake
ATR cam
50lb injectors
50lb chip/ speedpro
al's suspension
alky kit
ITS boost controller
some weight savings here and there (lets say 100 pounds)
stage 5 hartman tranny

I am thinking with proper tuning it could go 11.teens
what do you guys think

if I think that a stock sy could handle 35 pounds i would do it but more realisticly it will probably be around 23-25 I think. maybe I am way off here I dont know.

I think you'll be finding out you should be starting on a stout motor, 4 bolt mains, stock block & crank, Eagle rods, good forged pistons.

Mark Larson has a similar build, with a bigger cam (less headwork?) and has run 11.3 already.

Tuning is gonna be where it's at with any of these builds.

I have Eagle rods - but someone we know - snapped one mid beam..... maybe bad quality control..... $350 for a shitty set - or $700 for a good set.....

How much does a gasket set - and a block cost when the rod breaks mid beam - goes though the water jacket , and takes out the oil pan ?

I ran my 11.85 with stock rods and TRW pistons....they were a little tweaked when they came out... but if you know me - they handled a bunch of abuse....

I don't think you have enought cam to run 11 teens, it's actually not the cam, but your running out of gear, either get a different cam or get different gear(s).

and my GUESS

35 psi = 11.8's
27 psi = 11.5's

how will i run out of gear? trucks are running into the 10's on the same gears arent they? and the heads, cam, intake went 10.48 in chitown on low boost with a 72 turbo and a speedpro

The small cam will put your powerband just above stock, meaning your engine will run out of breath at 5000 or so, in 3rd gear that's 110mph or so. If you don't want to run into OD, you need to spin higher, like 5500-6000 for 130mph through the traps.

Who went 10.48 on that combo? I've never heard of someone going 10s on that small of a cam, especially in my area.

Will the 09-422 be able to rev around 6000 ?

It'll rev that high, but it won't make much power. I think mine runs out of breath at about 53-5500. I shift my 1-2 at 6300, but it's only there for a millisecond and then falls right into the power band.

Hey Mark,

what kind of drivability does the 9-422-8 offer? I've already bought a 412 but now I'm thinking I should have bought a 422.

I know alot of people have had great success with the 412, I wonder what kind of succes have people had with the 422. Has anyone actually done a test with the two cams and the same combo?

TIA

Tony is running the 412 and he was going thru the lights at 5800-5900 with shifts at 5800. We ran like that at Chi town when he ran the 10.71@26psi.
We then played with the truck when we got home as we did not have time to test it before chi town. He ran 21-22 psi and locked the converter in 2nd and did a 3-4 shift to keep shift points in the 5400 zone. The truck ran 10.9 and 128.5 mph with 4-5psi less boost and not reving the motor.
If you want to push the stock block and crank big time keep the rpms belowe 5500 and make as much power as you can in that rpm range.
Reving the motor is harder on parts than more boost (with good gas and no knock). Read about how the Buick guy run 9's on the stock block they keep the rpms less than 5500. So if you keep the shift points in the 5500 range and do a 3-4 shift you will run the numbers. Use the huge torque that these motor make to move the truck down the quarter mile. I know the 3-4 shift can be hard on the tranny but I would rather do a tranny rebuild than a motor rebuild. :D But thats just my opinion

I thought so
When i went on the dyno the max power was from 5000 to 5500
Should i change the cam to finish the race with D ? or there is not enought gain doing so
When it shifts from D to OD at 5500 i dond feal any power loss at all,It pulls hard also
The driveability is kinda perfect ,i dont know with the stock ecm and chiping
Dont forget its not even close to the M3 engine that revs like a clock and the power never ends
Ill stick to 5500 rpm to keep everything inside the block
