idea. True bolt on performance

Just an idea here. Take a stock truck add a pte44, with the free flow exhaust. Get a boost controller like the ramcharger unit, something that works like a granger vale, tie your propane controls to work with boost, so you use more propane with more boost basically providing all the extra fuel. This would be the ultimate 11 second stocker, no fuel system upgrade, just three bolt ons and your in the 11's. Now we just need to motivate Dig or BG to start working on it. Total kit would be

PTE 44
Boost controller/propane
Minor chip (2 bar stocker like), just eliminate fuel cut off and a few other minor adjustments.

PTE kit already has a dump so that should flow enough when open 8)

We could even tie a boost gauge right into the controller, and since PTE turbo kit comes with a dump, now your down to just three mods the turbo, controller and chip. Damn I'm thinking about buying another truck, just to try it.

This idea hasn't crossed my mind :p

If you used a ball bearing setup, thru Mike or the Garrett stuff that PTE will have, it'd really help on the trucks with stock parts, as they really don't flow a lot to help with spool up. Course that just takes $ away from the whole cheap aspect.

I hear ya Mark, I've thought about many scenarios.

Some other thoughts
-external gate on crossover - wouldn't limit you to whatever turbo you wanted to run, whether it be Mitsu, Garrett, whatever...

Also, if you were going to do the PTE setup, and were doing this on the cheap, you could do a bleeder setup, or just crank the rod for more boost. This'd eliminate $50-160 more from the equation. You just better be more careful of low propane issues.

How about this setup:

$750 20g with 10cm2 housing
$300 external gate on crossover
$50 dump before cat
$300 IPO propane

custom chip (whatever, just basic 2 or 3 bar)

No need to tie the boost controller in with the propane. From what I've seen so far, you *really* don't notice an excess of propane like you do with too much alky. Tune your propane so that you have enough for 20-22psi, whatever boost you want to run, and you won't notice a difference from 15-20psi.

From this aspect, you could even argue, just do propane, external gate & dump on a stock turbo setup, run 18-20psi all day long. Many Sy's run mid 12s on the stock turbo already.

Whatever, i'm gonna go eat some turkey.

Yep. Maybe tie some sort of boost cut, if bottle pressure drops under say 90 psi or whatever.

Can't wait to hear your results, if the're promising, I might go after some faster times, right now I'm at the point where I'd need to completely redo my fuel system to run solid 10's. I'd rather just add a PTE72 and propane.

The stock stuff still sounds like more fun, there's just something about running fast with a stocker.

I can't wait to get some results too. Unfortunately that might not happen til spring, and the results might not be comparable to much else, since my truck is going to be a bit lighter than most I know of. I'd like to get some data this winter, but I still have to solve the false knock I'm seeing, then wait for some dry pavement days.

My goal is mid/high 11s on the stock motor on pump gas. If I get high 11s out of it, is that impressive at all? (considering the bolt ons I have, as well as the weight of the truck, once I do the suspension and all over winter)

As for safety issues, I'm trying to determine a good way to do this as well.

I'm almost considering using the 02 readings at WOT, as the propane will be tune-able with the oxygen sensors. If you tune with propane to 12:1 (or whatever works) and you run low on propane, your AFR is going to go LEAN quickly. Boost cut may be what we should look at. I was going to vary fueling/timing/boost based on MAT, but I don't see the low MAT's with the propane. The IPO kit now has the LED for low propane warning, perhaps that could be integrated into an automated safety setup.

My current plan is to have my base boost set at 15-16psi, then kick the boost controller on for propane useage at 20+psi. Monitor the remote gauge I have to make sure my propane pressure is up. Something foolproof would be great though, with code in the chip or some electrical tricks.

I got the pte44, the boost control, the 2 bar stock like chip, now all I need is the propane kit and I will be in the 11s  . I wish The only way my truck would make into the 11s is if I droped it off a building. but It still sounds like fun to try. Will running 20-22 psi make that much differnce?

If you have a sy 11's should be possible, if there are multiple stock turbos running 12.5's and a 20g in the 11's and a ty ran 12.4 with a 44 full weight+ and untuned.

It will not be easy you will need a great 60 1.5-6 and solid 20-24psi and 20-24 deg imo.

may need 50's too.

I am sure there are more examples too.

I'm really surprised the OGS kit doesn't monitor this... have a bottle
pressure sender and use the output to trigger a boost shut-off. It'd be
relatively easy.

Or, if you had a full-time WB, you could hook into the boost control code
and pull out WGDC when the WB read greater than 12.8:1.

Alcohol is fuel, too... I don't think we've seen the outer limits of your
current combination.

I have the propane, I have a pt52, and the 3"DP. All I am waiting on is my ultimate. Hopefully that will make the TY run low 12's. I also have 50's and an A2A from ARA said to have already been shipped. Hope it gets here PDQ. I've been waiting since late September and am going L.O.C.O.

Will you be using the integral wstegate on the PTE52 with the A2A or will you be using an external? I ask becuase i would like to get the ARA A2A also but would like to stay with the integral gate on the 52. I know it's possible, just wondering if it required to reweld the integral in a differnt location due to the 4:30 clocking position of the housing.

Thanks

what the hell did you just say?
the internal wastgate is on the exhaust side of the turbo. it doesnt matter how you clock the turbo, it will still work, because it will not move. the part of the turbo that gets rotated, or re-clocked is the front of the turbo. the back always stays in the same position, cause its mounted to the exhaust........unless you got some CRAZY headers that are upside down or something.

Okay, let me try to slim it down. The internal gate on a PTE52 is mounted to the compressor side of the turbo. So when the compressor housing needs to be re-clocked(rotated) to the 4:30 position for the Atomic Rooster Autosports A2A. How can you still match up the rod from the internal wastegate with the exuast housing side of the turbo on the downpipe? I just have no clue how to rotate the PTE turbo. Sorry for causing a little off topic on this post.

bdubb

I am teh kingpin!
Wastegate is on the exhaust side

wastegate ACTUATOR mounts on the compressor side

the PTE setup can be clocked in a variety of positions, something will accomodate you I'm sure.

If it helps I have seen a KB and a dual core work with the pte kit.

I have the PTE setup with a single core dequick air-air setup. Works fine. You just have to clock the compressor so that the outlet will work for the IC pipe as well as keeping the wastegate actuator lined up with the wastegate, when it is bolted back up.

I have the ATR DP and am therefore using the external WG. This was not my first choice, but that's how things work out sometimes. I am doing this with parts I either had, or got a really good deal on.

I'm running basically the same setup Brian mentioned with an otherwise stock motor:
Mitsu 20g 12cm2 housing
External gate on x-over
SMC alcohol injection
TCS 9/11 2800 stall
Manual "Boostvalve" controller
Ultimate chip

I ran a 7.74 1/8 mile before adding the external gate - my integral gate was giving me grief that day so I limited boost to 16-17psi and was running pump gas. Boost control is MUCH better now with the Tial. I'm not sure what a solid 20+ psi run on race gas would net. I also just added a wideband and am starting to look at data, I know there is still potential here - I'm running pig rich. 11's are definitely possible IMO without spending a "lot" of money.
