fyi i've installed and used datamaster on tons of laptops.. you need to install the driver for the usb moates cable and play with the aldl link adjustment bar.. I've found that 9 times out of 10 for me 197 or without one eitherway worked for me and yes the truck has to be running in order to connect to the pcm.

nice to read you succeeded and got one step further :)

i used this software to tune the aldl timing, didn't want to lose many trial runs of datamaster:

think you will have troubles with vista with that software, too, but i'd give it a try.

the setting "197" in aldl timing works for me, too.
