Intercooler ice box

Does anyone here use these? I'm thinking about adding one to my truck. Seems like a good idea. I already have a huge Jabsco pump on the IC system, just need to find a suitable mounting location. I'm thinking inside the cab behind the seats.

Re: Intercooler ice box

I've seen them placed in the bed before .For daily driving , putting ice in it will get old . If you street race or hit the local strip alot , they can definitely come in handy . At a minimum the cooling from the extra liquid in the system will delay heat soaking the stock cche and I/C .

Your set on it being inside the cab though ?

Re: Intercooler ice box

I run one in my S/C Buick Regal, it helps balance out the system temps and works awesome for icing down at the track.

I run an 8 Gal. one for my air to water. This is similar to the on I have. It's from chisled performance with a built in pump. Mounted in my bed w/ 3/4 lines running to the IC & a front heat exchanger. Works great at the track with a little ice:tup:.

I am really wanting to put one where the ABS unit is. Just something for Saturday nights but it is far down on my list of things to do.

Built a box to go where ABS was many years ago for my truck, ended up selling it when combination changed and a few others used it also after. It worked well but you will go through 1/2 bag of ice per pass at the track.

In my typhoon, I now have a big tank in the back, again works well at track but must be filled every 2 passes.

Code what?
Wouldn't every time you where to open the lid on the tank you would loose fluid everywhere? Unless the lid was the highest point in the system. The cap on the stock IC is the highest point in the system.

I looked into this and opted out per cost. And loosing fluid all over the place to add ice.The way I have my lines to the left side of the engine (drivers side) allows me to drain and fill the system in under 5 min. So I'll take my 5gal race fuel jug to the track full of ice water and drain and fill the IC between passes.

Re: Intercooler ice box

And having one of these in the shop helps out keeping the IC iced down on track days;)! Up to 300 lbs. of ice a day:tup:. Huge score, the guy was moving & said just come & get it, no $. Didn't have to ask us twice. I'll be putting it to good use in a couple of weeks, finally!!
