i tried a search but didnt find the answer i was looking for...

when you ground the IC to the firewall do you have to use a switch or will it work automaticly?

Yes.

I grounded mine - no switch.

Been thinking about putting it on a switch.

It isn't worth it.

Ground it - forget about it.

I put a switch under the hood so if I need the key on I can cut off the pump if desired.
As far as one in the cab waste of valuable syty repair time

Dave - U said :

Why would you ever want to not have it on?

Seems like a waste of 3 dollars for a switch

Because U will wear out the pump ? I mean suppose U go on a 3-4 day trip across the US - leave it on the whole time ?

What costs more - $3. for a switch or having a new pump installed ?

That's a moot point. I've had mine hotwired for almost 5 years now and have never even had the slightest problem with it. I'm confident it'll go for another 5.

$100 pump -vs- hot motor/detonation/big motor rebuild bill

HMMM..

I also have had my shurflo hotwired for 5 yrs, still going strong.

I think patrick is using switch if he has key on, engine not running. Not sure why he would do that very long, unless he likes to jam to the radio sometimes.

cool, thanks for the help, i grounded mine to the firewall w/o a switch. i think my pump is bad though because i cant hear it running when i have the key switched on. time to upgrade i guess!!!!

I shut mine off in th winters here in Mass when it gets below 40 degrees. If I leave it running in the cold my gas mileage drops by 3-4 MPG! If you live in a warm climate I see no need for a switch. Pumps are relatively cheap.

i found what looks to be a grey wire (in the same loom as the yellow ic wire that you are supposed to ground to make your pump run) that has a butt connector type thingee on the end of it just hanging there, is there a home for this wire or is it just there for something else? i looks like it might go to the firewall but i couldnt see anywhere for it. any ideas?

Fuel pump test connector.....put 12v to it and it powers on the fuel pump. Leave it as-is.
