Just ran across this place lookin for info. I don't have a a Sy or Ty, but I remember when they came out. LOL

I have 3 S10 platform trucks though, and 5 in the family.

1. 98 Sonoma (My daily). Ex cab, TPI 305 w LT1 cam and t56 trans.
2. 95 Ex cab, 2.2 5 speed. Main bearing knock. Rebuilding the motor now. (My son thinks he has to have this one... lol)
3. 03 Sonoma 4.3/4l60e ZQ8 suspension, (this one will be the next project, 6.0/t56)
4. My wife's 99 Jimmy 2wd
5 My son's 96 S10 ex cab, 355/5 sp

My other vehicles are;
99 1 ton 4x4 srw 454 5 sp
93 c1500 ex cab 350 4l60e, (the old daily. 450k+ on it)
72 4x4 3/4 454 4 speed, (getting a 5 sp nv4500)

With all the turbo stuff going on now days I thought this would be a good place to learn a little about those. Thinkin I might use the 03 4.3 as a learning platform for turbocharging. If I blow it up no big deal. LOL
Or maybe use the 305 tpi as the guinea pig??

Also looking for info on a 4.3 bowtie block. I have one that came with the 95 and 03 when I bought them. What do I look for as common problems with these, (if there are any), value, ect. I'm not a V6 guy so I'm not familiar with these at all.

Welcome to the forum. There is plenty of info floating around here.

Maybe your referring to Vortec motors instead of Bowtie Blocks? To my knowledge none of these vehicle ever came with a bowtie block.

Good luck,
Nick

Oh, I've been checking things out. LOL Lots of interesting thing around here.

Yea, I know the bowtie block was GM "aftermarket" only. I've just been trying to ID one and see if they have any common problem areas to look for. I just dropped it off at the machine shop yesterday to have it cleaned and generally checked over. Cracks, bore size, deck warpage, crank journal alignment, etc.

Re: Just joined

Gotta post pic of these. No Syclones or Typhoons, but these are mine and my sons.

Black one is a 96 with a 355/5speed

Red/silver one is 95 with stock 2.2/5 speed

Brown one is 98 with TPI305/T56 6 speed.

And the multi colored full size is my 93. It's stock with 454K + miles on it. Well stock except for the many different body panels on it... LOL
