My friend has a black 91 Taurus SHO. Real nice car. Dynoed at 200.4 FWHP so its definitely quick. I still managed to slaughter him in the phoon though. No contest. First 0-60 and then again 40-85. Fun times  I gotta give respect to the SHO's though, sweet cars. My family has had 3 (we still have one)

thanks for the props on shos. just came in here for the first time. wanted to see what goes on. i think cyclones and typhoons are madly impressive. i was at the illegals one night and a cyclone handed everyone their asses. loved it.

sho-wise..........he wasnt real smart going from a dig, or even 45 mph. he shoulda gone with a 70 mph roll on, because the sho digs DEEP into third when you nail it at that speed.

good kill

Cool, my girlfriend bought a '94 SHO ATX for $6500 6 months ago with only 66K original miles and it's a creampuff. She got a sweet deal and that car is a blast to drive! I did a complete tune up from bumper to bumper and put Eibach springs, Tokico struts, and 96 brake upgrade on it. The engine is bone stock and I am able to do 0-60 in 6.85 with it which isn't too shabby for a big 4 door. That car has every amenity known to man including 8 way power leather seats, auto everything, and very roomy. I told her I'd by it off her if she gets sick of it. Those engines are good for well over 200K miles if taken care of. The real fast SHOs are the 89 and 90 5-speeds but all I can think of is that movie "RoboCop" when I see the first gen's, he he.

I slaughtered one on Rt. 10 a couple of months ago. Green, looked to be early 90's. Manual trans, it seemed. He was being all frisky in traffic ahead of me, so I figured I'd show him what's up with the Ty. The most striking thing about it was what must've been dual 3" tailpipes and piping underneath it. Seemed like way overkill and looked like sewer pipes jammed under it.

Super High Output.

It was basically a somewhat limited production Taurus with a Yamaha 3 liter, DOHC, 24 valve V6 in it. I think they were rated about 220hp from the factory.

During the jelly-bean redesign, they dumped the V6 and stuffed a V8 in it, but it never really delivered the performance of the V6. Instead it was more of a heavy, touring luxury sedan.

I almost bought a V6 model a few years back, but wound up passing on it. I remember the test-drive pretty well, pulled pretty hard with massive torque-steer!

Ours has no torque steer at all. I've driven the piss out of it and it's a wonderful car to drive. Had my three brothers in the car with me on the freeway and we got it up to 145 mph EASILY on Interstate 5 here in CA. Those DOHC 24v engines sound sweet between 6000 and 7000RPM! The transmissions are the weak points but those things can always be improved.

89 to 95 years used the Yamaha DOHC 24v aluminum engine. It was designed by Yamaha and delivered to Ford rated at 300HP but Ford detuned it to 220HP for some reason. I raced a V8 SHO in the 94 SHO and kicked it's ass.

If you check out the "Typhoon Wanted" ads on syty.org, you'll see I'm using my 93 ATX SHO as a partial trade for a Ty. Yes, the SHO is quick and fun, but after owning a Grand National for 10 years, I'm ready to get back to the Turbo-6. The SHO is a nice family car or grocery getter with plenty of bells and whistles.

Don't forget round about 91 or so...I don't know dates but when they added the Auto Tranny...the engine changed the auto tranny got a 3.2 V-6, while the manual tranny maintained the standard 3.0 V-6. The reason for the different engine was a flatter torque curve for the Auto Tranny that made it that much nicer to drive.

FYI.
