In my case I've to remove only the multipurpose bracket which is holding the coil, map sensor and EGR solenoid (if you still have one). This way you can remove the connector and use a big deep soket (around 22mm, but I'm not sure) and some extension to get it out. Don't break the connector, you should push it on the smaller sides to get it off.
On a side not, I've no IC lines up there, so this could make my life easier. Also when you put back your new knock sensor, use the proper torque to tigthen it (around 18Nm, but check it in the manual), because it's sensibility (sp?) depends on it...
