knock sounds??

well now with only 5500 miles on my stock motor, im having strange sounds. it all happend on the highway one day when i got into boosts trying to pass someone. the truck boosted up and then i heard a poping sound, and a cloud of black smoke behind me. later that day i started the truck and heard a ticking sound coming from my motor. i hear it a little at idle.and when i rev the motor it gets louder and faster. and when i drive and i can hear it get louder when i let off the gas and cruise at a steady speed, when i add gas it goes away. when i totaly let off it goes away. im hoping its somthing minor. like i said this is a new gm crate motor and it was broken in corectly. and i cant imagine that the motor is shot already. i have the basic mods fpr, walboro, johnson pump, new plugs wires ext.

are you still getting any smoke frome the exhaust ? what color ? might wanna do a compression check on the cylinders and make sure something did'nt come apart on ya ! I'd have to say if your getting funky sounds from the engine and any or most rpms somethings fubar .

put a timing light on it and see if the knock is the same frequency of the light....If it's twice as fast, you likely have problems down below...also, I'd pull the valve covers and start checking around in there....crank the motor over with the valvecovers off (without starting it)....good luck

edit: I wouldn't be driving it anymore at this point...you could be send metal through the entire motor.....also engine knocks or taps typically don't get any better.....

I thought the correct crate engines were not available anymore. Do you have high compression pistons?
What is your cranking compression?

the motor is a old crate motor, from when they had them. also my oil pressure is still very good.
