Lockup? plug unplugged in 700R4

I'm changing the fluid and notice this plug is unplugged! 700R4 is new to me but I'm assuming it's the TC lockup solenoid plug?

Why would the previous owner have unplugged it?

TC wearing out?

lockup solenoid bad?

Are there some common defects that unplugging this would mask?

Suppose I'll plug it in and see what happens, but any initial ideas are welcomed!

thanks.

good question, ive seen gm torque converter lockup soleniods stick sometimes, they will hold the clutch on.when this happens sometimes when you come to a stop it will shudder an even stall, like a stick shift if you dont push in the clutch.

If the clip wasn't broken it was definitely forgotten. Why the hell would anyone remove the pan to unplug it when they could simply unplug it from the top?

I agree, plug it in and see what happens. If there's a problem and someone was trying to hide it you can always unplug it from the top of the trans and address the issue at a later time.

I had a '90 sunbird that I had to unplug the lock up switch on. As you would slow to a stop the car would chatter and stall exactly as described above. I left it unplugged and drove it for 30k miles until I sold it.
