A non lockup TC will really hurt your mph and you'd better have a pretty stout cooler on that tranny, they build a ton of heat.
Problem is getting a convertor that is loose enough to spool the turbo nice at the bottom and still be efficent enough at the top so you don't waste a bunch of rpm.
Roland went non lockup, as well as Paul (another WA member). Both are not overly happy, I think Roland is somewhat ok now, once stall was fixed, but Paul isn't fully.
I would heavily suggest staying lockup.
So what was the outcome, verdict on tranny failure?
I don't know. I've never really put a lot of thought into it to be honest. I suspect it may have something to do with keeping a modified motor revving higher in it's peak power range. Loading things up locking the convertor works for me. But maybe in a cammed car making more top end power the extra rpm works well. Still losing HP through slippage though.
