M3 BMW vs Typhoon

Re: M3 BMW vs Typhoon

I do all my own wrenching and have over $70K invested into the Sy in 8 years. I'd say get the M3 for what he's looking to do. Our trucks are made to own the stoplight...not road race.

Hmmm, Thats alot...but as a daily driver like mine.....I've spent maybe 3 grand over 7 years. Thats 428$ annually for a pretty quick plywood hauler.

The M series cars are light years away from our trucks in category and initial price too....not a good comparo in my book.

Besides....like someone else eluded too......if he's not HOT for a Sy/Ty....its NOT for him.:myclone:

For us to make the trucks comparable even at baseline.....we'd have to remove almost EVERYTHING GM,:(.....I wish I was joking.....truth hurts.lol.

I've even got a black on black 91' BMW 525I S5 to compare "year to year".....and the SY is just too utilitarian to begin on the list.

Not apples to apples at any level.

He needs to get the BMW.....simply because he's already sold himself.
Cheers,Vinny

Yeah the BMW M3 is right choice from this side of the ocean.
Over here the beamers aren't that expensive.
They handle way, way better than any US car I've driven (don't know bout the Z06 though )
The down side is when youve gotto go to the BMW dealer for a major maintenance, thats also over here a problem when you getthe bill , $$$.:2cents:
But over here there are more than enough people who can work on BMW's and there are some very nice packages and parts to upgrade your even fast and handling M3 to.

I even know a guy with who I worked with, years ago who has his own company who builds their own BMW's http://www.sterkens.nl/nieuwbouw.html (sorry that its in Dutch.) and are performingeven better than stock from of the factory.
Has also the largest inventory in stock where even BMW dealers buying parts from over all Europe at his place.http://www.sterkens.nl/onderdelen.html and is known by the BMW distributor.
So he is also exporting all kind off parts and even complete bodies, if the BMW dealer doesn't have it call m , he has it from the largest newest engine to used parts all on stock.
So if there are Beamer heads out there who don't know where to find parts or how to contact him. at f.sterkens@gmail.com.

I agree that your friend should get the BMW too...BUT you can buy a BMW any time you want. They aren't going away.

There is just something about owning a piece of history and knowing that you are driving one of a limited produced vehicle on the face of the earth, plus it is badass. In the not so distant future these vehicles will be harder to come by in current shapes and prices. I know some of you guys are around Sy/Tys all day long. I live in Montana and I am pretty sure I have the only one on the road. I went to register my Typhoon after I bought it, and it wasn't in the system. They didn't know what to do with my registration!

M3 is way better in everyday driving. Obviously, most of us here would rather have a SyTy as a toy vehicle but they just don't hold as well day to day.

Say it isn't so Joe....;).....I tend to disagree. If you've purchased a well maintained truck thats also not been ragged out .....they last great and handle day to day just fine. Like I've always said....I haul plywood, chat, antiques etc. in the back of mine and have put 61K miles on mine with daily use.
Now granted.....might be a better chance that the Bimmer tranny could go longer, cause I did have to swap mine out at 95K total miles.....but thats about the worst of it for me.
Well that and Injectors,fuel pump,vac lines,half shafts,FPR,door regulator motors,wiper motor,blower fan,dash switches and door handles (3 times) etc,

Oh well......ya' gotta' spend money on the Bimmer maint. too, damn it. I realize most of you guys have them for toys.

Why are we really discussing this again ????:rotf:

Altima akin to a BMW.....you need to stop driving 1982 325 models then....geez....that's the nuttiest thing I have ever heard. altima......hahaha!!! :rotf:

You doubtin my dads SER? Ill kick your ass sucka!!!! My dads SER is so cool no one on the street can beat it, I raced a GT40 in it and smoked it!!!!! :roll:No but seriously, I have driven quite a few. Last one I drove was a 5 series, like an 01 I believe. I have driven a few 3 series as well. Now if you compare the Altima to an M3 I can see your point but, the BMW's that aren't M series cars, are just not that quick. If a regular 3 series beat the Altima I would be surprised, I'd say they would be right next to each other. I can say that the BMW's I have driven were probably a lot more comfortable than my dads SER but power wise, it just about the same. Now remember, I am talking about the non M series cars before you go start another shit war with me. Read what I write before you get started on me, you drive me buts sometimes.

I know a guy who recently acquired a 3 series car, I think it is an 03? He loves it over the TY and his SY as a daily driver. He'll tell you any day of the week that power doesn't compare to either truck but all he does is brag about the heated seats and all the creature comforts, I have yet to ride in it but to me a BMW is a BMW. I'm sure it is a better choice for a daily.

What are the new 8 series like? I see them around and they look pretty mean but is their bite as bad as their bark? I'd like to line up with one of these when I get my truck back on the road. They look pretty sick!

Re: M3 BMW vs Typhoon

I fastest BMW I know of is the 2008 M5. Its supposed to run 12.5 in the quarter. I raced one when I was 100% stock and he pulled away from me at 60 mph.
My bud was not going to use the BMW as a daily. If he wanted to drive a Typhoon daily I would tell him hes drunk. He has a 2wd Chevy Colorado for a daily. He also has a 1988 supra with a 1zj waiting to get dropped in.

C'mon guys, two different cars. The bimmer as a DD is the best choice. Sy/Ty's are good as toys and that's it!

What is the actual difference between the m3 and m5? I admit I have never driven an M car. I do know that I have beat 3 or 4 M3's from a roll though. Still haven't lined up with the M5's.

Haha...glad I could drive you nuts...my pleasure (again) :rotf:. My non M 545i M6 sport would have a field day with the SER....sorry....just poking!!! 325hp in a BMW is great. BMW hp just feels different that most cars....might be the torque I suppose.

What's this 8 series you speak of?

Ok, so you just showed you know close to nothing about a BMW ;). The 3 series (or M3) is a smaller car than the 5 series (or M5). The 3 series competes with the likes of the Lexus IS, Audi A4, Merc. C class, etc. The 5 series with the Lexus GS, Audi A6, Merc E class. M3 and M5 are totally different cars. The 3 as of 08 has a V8, previously a 6, the M5 has a V10 (500hp)......mad ass car. M3 comes in 2 and 4 door config., 5 series only a 4 door config. Geez.........

Just playin!

Tell me I am crazy but didn't the M3's used to be turbo 4 cylinders? I raced one in my Vette once and the guy said it was stock and I really didn't care enough to go look it up or ask around, especially sine I beat it. I don't claim to know a lot about them except for my own experience with them. I am sure your 5 series would have a field day, I can't brag that the Altima SER is anything to write home about but I do drive my dads on occasion and I have to say it is kind of snappy for an Altima. People always want to race it because it is red with black wheels, my dad, doesn't know how to down shift to actually race the car so he always says its slow and he got left in the dust by Corollas. He said the same thing when he had is Tiburon. I would say the GTV6 Tiburon and my dads Altima were pretty comparable and I raced a few things in that Tiburon. If only my dad knew:rotf:

Thats funny. I uesed to beat up on my moms 1998 v6 Camry. It has some sort of high output package on it. It moves real good. I could race mustang GT's with it and stay with em.

Re: M3 BMW vs Typhoon

This is what he ended up with. He just showed up in my driveway with it. He even let me drive it. Its a real beast and way more than I expected. It will rival my Syclone. In a strait line I have him but not by a whole lot I dont think. Once Im done working on the Sy get ready for some STI vs Syclone videos in the near future. Around corners the STI is UNREAL!
