Meguiars orbital buffer or a less expensive one?

as anyone who read my last post about waxing a new car i got knows i'm certainly no expert at it....

but i now have several cars from bad to as new shape paint. my black denail is in dire need of detailing and waxing. my grand national is black... what can i say :--( we all know about black... and i have two other cars that need done.

i'm thinking about getting an orbil buffer. i've used rotary buffers before and did such an outstanding job with them that when i was done the car looked great.... AFTER i had it repainted to fix all the damage i did... i'm told that the orbital models are completely different and very safe to use. the meguairs DA orbital is pretty highly recomended. but it's about 150 bucks. i've seen much much much cheaper ones in wallymart and other places and am wondering if the meguiars is really all that much better or if it's just a lot more expensive because it says meguiars on it?

any recomendations about the meguiars or opinions would be much appreciated. in order of ''need to be worked on'' my denali is in great need, the buick is good but damn cars get so dang dirty since i don't have a garage and everything sits outside, and the new mercedes is perfect and i'd like to keep it that way. the only thing wrong with it is it has a few faint swirls where the dealer prepped it. nothing horrible but in the right light you can see them slightly. it's steel grey metallic which is like a gunmetal grey so it's not as bad to work on as the black cars. i was thinking since i have 4 cars to work on and the denali is huge a buffer would cut the work time down a lot... ???

i just bought some meguiars ultimate liquid to try after the reccomendation i got on the other post for the benz. the denali will definitely need some cleaner and swirl medicine. all i've ever used on the buick is a castle product called black magic spray detailer polish. it works great on black cars if anyone is interested. not hard to get off, no white haze, and shines like a mother... pretty cheap too

The orbital DA polishers are fantastic. We use the porter cable, 6", and love it. Produces great results. Most of the other companies, ie Meguirs, Griots, use the PC version and change the handle or case. They aren't cheap, but worth its weight in time savings and results. And the other key factor is the pads. I get supplies, and polishers from Autogeek or Griots.

As for products, we use 3M, Menzerna, and there is a local place (Aratari) that produces their own line of stuff, and we really like their stuff.

The PC 7424 seems to be the standard anymore. There are tons of instructional videos on YouTube. I had an pneumatic DA and it worked well for small sections but my compressor had a problem keeping up on larger areas. I'll be buying a PC soon.

I use a griots DA and have had very good results with it. check out autogeekonline.net, theres plenty of information there

i was thinking of getting either griots or a meguiars buffer. i picked up a turtle wax 10 model at wallymart for only about 25 or 30 bucks, but without using it on a car i plugged it in and it didn't seem to have much power at all just pushing against my hand. probaby would be ok for putting on wax but i wouldn't think it would have the umph to work with a compound or cleaner. plus, i has a bonnet no a foam pad i found out. unless i've been told wrong the bonnets don't hold up very long at all.

the meguiars was my first choice but the griots is a little cheaper. i've always like meguiars stuff and if i didn't i've called them and they've just said send the label in and we'll send you a replacement or refund. but nobody local sells their buffer so i'm kind of buying either one sight unseen. i did try a friends PC and thought it was kinda hard on my hands (which are in miserable shape and have been broken and operated on multiple times from my youth when i used them for clubs... :--) no, not violent, just past boxer. and i've heard the meguiars is a lot easier on the hands. don't know if that's BS or true but would be a concern of mine

i wish someone has used the meguiars and could give me a reccomendation on it. i tried to call autogeek but they were busy and i left a message and they haven't called back yet. i'm interested to hear what they say. i heard that the fella that own autogeek used to work for meguiars. but his review of the griots was very good.

maybe i should just keep the turtle wax machine, but i wish it worked with foam pads instead of bonnets. maybe bonnets are better today than they used to be in olden times but they used to be a pain in the neck. one thing about walmart is that if i use it and don't like it i can still return it. i checked about that before i bought it...... i do like the big handles. and it was cheap
