Re: Methanol

Water has the greatest ability to absorb heat and is pretty cheap.
Methanol is extremely flammable but has a higher than (premium) gasoline octane level.

If you run all water and the pressure drops your car does not lean out.

But it it'll ping, and will die from that. If you lose your anti-detonant, whatever it is, you'll be picking up parts eventually. How soon it happens is really kinda moot.

If your methanol hose breaks and sprays everywhere your motor leans out and there is a fire.

.

This is true, and is why you don't want to mess around with cheap hoses.

The same thing could be said for the gas running to the motor as well...

I need my Syclone :(
Re: Methanol

If you run out of water/meth (your anti-detonant) at full boost, the motor won't last long, either.
If the mix is what's keeping it from pinging, and that mix goes away...

Water is by far the champ in terms of Latent Heat of Vaporization. (The amount of heat "absorbed" when a substance vaporizes) Methanol is second, but quite a bit behind, followed by other alcohols, and gasoline is sort of a tail-ender.

The downer to water is that it doesn't burn. There are people who claim that the water breaks down into Hydrogen and Oxygen, which is bunk. The energy needed to break apart a water molecule is much greater than what you find in normal combustion. So, you end up with a bit of steam in the combustion chamber, which isn't an entirely bad thing at low doses. The problem comes when you're injecting a lot of it, as many of the ultra-high boost guys are- you're basically putting out the fire.

Pure alcohol, on the other hand, just burns.

of course im not going to run my engine dry with out the injection but lets say i run out for a few miles, it wil still be ok but not broken. its the level of safety i look for.

i wouldnt run 100% meth unless i was a track car only
