Ordering my rear for my truck. It will be a moser 12 bolt with 33spline or 35s gun drilled axles. Has anyone had any success with a rear spool with the awd. Not concerned about driveability. Trans will be a powerglide adapted to the transfer case.

Do we have the 4x4 or 2wd axle? I'm thinking 4x4. But wanna make sure!

Re: 12 bolt with a spool????

Why is it you think you need a spool, or you just trying to save a few bucks?
They make tru-tracs which are torsen style diffs just like they started making for the front..
Id imagine a spool wouldnt be much fun at all with a truck that has wide sticky fronts on it, even just in the pits..

We are 4wd width. Are you at all interested in an 8.5in 4wd rearend with disc brakes?

I'm settled on the 12 bolt. I'm building this truck to get the awd fastest V6 title back in the states, so it's gotta be extremely tough. Robert you should be very afraid!

Ok no worries. So here's my take.

You are going to be running light weight race wheels then right?
Why not go with a 2wd width rearend and then get your drag wheels with an offset to match. By using a 2wd rear axle you will essentially be eliminating several inches of extra weight instead of having a wider rear end. And the wheels will weigh the same regardless of the offset. You will need every ounce of weight savings you can get your hands on.

And at that point I would stick with the spool. It's smaller and lighter. And this doesn't sound like it will be street driven terribly often anyways.

Moser 12 bolt

Moser 12 bolt came in . 33 spline gun drilled axles with lightened flanges , rear spool. / Wilwood light weight drag brakes.
Suspension is Calvert 2 inch drop mono leafs,( surprisingly light!) Calvert adj drag shocks and caltracs. I know what people are gonna say about a spool, but this is a race car only. Hoosiers on all 4 corners. I will be using the stock wheels since would like to keep some of the original look of the truck.

Re: Moser 12 bolt

What times are you expecting and are you adding a roll-bar?

I have full entintions of beating Mr Syclones times. So It's gotta go 8.69. The truck will be awd / powerglide trans, 280ci oddfire, Pontiac heads, solid roller 250 ish at .050 if I remember specs correctly. Cage will Be chromoly. Goal is 3250lb with me in it. Planning on having it finished before April. Tim lynch will be building the engine/ he's a fairly famous pro stock driver and ex proline racing engine builder.

Nice! It you weren't so far away I'd come watch. You are exactly 3 seconds quicker than me. :rotf: I see 9 sec cars fairly often, 8 sec cars a little less. Have you licensed and doesn't the chassis need to be certified? Just wondering, sounds like you're on top of things. I've bracket raced a 9 sec, 140 mph '57 Chev. Old school 350, twin 4 bbls, vertex mag, and no wheelies. Neat car. Good luck, nice project.

Re: Moser 12 bolt

Bolted the new brakes on! Very impressed with the quality!! Rotors weighed only 6lbs! 3.5lbs lighter than the aluminum drums I were going to run.
