MSD 6A

What's everybody's opinion/experience on the MSD 6A ignition box. I'm assuming it works on stock distributor ignitions. Anybody running them? Is it a good thing, bad thing, better performance, better plug life, worth it on a stock turbo truck, don't waste my money, and etc.?

I currently run the older MSD 6A. I wouldn't run mine without it. Can't speak for what the Heavy Hitters on here run. I am also looking at trying to figure out a crank trigger setup next time I upgrade.

I've known several people running MSD 6As and they all seemed to like them but these were all higher rpm n/a builds. I was wondering if it was any real benefit on our relatively low rpm stock engines. I just wondered if they would help with idle quality and transitional response from cruise to boost, etc..

As far as a crank trigger setup RPM/Syty store has these.

A little pricey maybe, but could be what you are looking for. Are you thinking about going to a coil pack type ignition? I'm pretty sure I've seen a complete coil on plug kit for our trucks but I don't remember where.

EFI Connection is who sells the coil per plug setup. If you only want crank trigger, you can adapt the later (96 and up) 4.3 vortec stuff over using the 5.7 vortec timing cover

The MSD box throws multiple sparks to about 3200 RPM. After that is throws one really good spark for the rest of the RPM range. If you still have the Batch fire Injection then I feel the MSD box does have a huge benefit when idling and running around town. Just my thoughts.

I've run MSD 6A boxes on a number of engines, N/A and turbocharged, and have only had positive results. The vehicles ranged from daily drivers to high boost (20+ psi) fun machines.
