OK... I'm trying to get all of my gauges to match and i was wondering how the electrical temp gauges work.

I have an Elec. Water Temp gauge that I'd like to use for either Oil or Tranny temp (possibly both if I can figure it out) My question is would it work and if so, do all temp gauges read the same range of voltage or will I have to add a resistor to make the gauge accurate.

Is it just the senders that vary? Do the senders and number range on the gauge have to be matched up? I remember seeing a post about a homemade gauge that had all of the temps in one unit with a rotary switch to select the desired reading.

EDIT: I found the thread about the gauge HERE, now all I have to do is figure out if a water temp gauge will work and what senders I will need for oil and tranny temps.
PS... I won't be uing the water temp at all, just the other two.

Yes, I think it will work, altho' these elect gauges aren't as accurate as mechanical ones. They all have senders, and I don't think it matters what fluid is in it. The senders have the fluid going thru them and convert the temp reading to an electrical reading.

Well, I got my gauges all installed and I have made a final decision on my choices. It's a little hard to see the needles in the pics but when driving they are very noticeable. It was probably the camera that made them dark.

Here are some day and night shots of my new PCP gauge overlays for the dash and my customized AutoMeter Boost gauge. I switched the lighting to blue LED's so it would match the dash. Eventually I'll have a couple more gauges for the pillar but this is the only functional one right now.

That other gauge in the pillar on top is water temp. that I had planned on using but it turned out to be a little bright for night driving. If anyone is interested in it, I'll sell it for $45 shipped. It has never been installed, I just stuck it in there and connected the bulb to see how it would look. Other than that it is bran new in box with all mounting hardware and sensor.

Updates coming when I get the milti-temp gauge figured out and installed.

When I did my triple pod setup, the electrical temp and pressure guages were much brighter than the mechanical boost guage. Autometer did not offer any choices in bulb wattage, so I ended up painting the bulbs with gray paint, checking, painting, etc until they all matched. PITA, but had to be done. The difference was just too large.

Your boost gauge light is similar to mine, but I think mine is even dimmer!!!!!! I put in one of those 5led bulbs from ledbulbs.com and it's still not that bright. My vacuum side of the boost gauge doesn't really light up at all!
