need brake help! dash light on

so I installed new cross drilled rotors and new pads and a little while later my dash lights came on (brake, abs).
My impression is if you compress the caliper and dont open up the bleeder valve to release the preasure it could damage the master cylinder. is this true? If this is the case, is it safe to assume that this is the problem? and i can go ahead and replace the master cylinder?
And then if i do that would there be an advantage to replacing it with one out of a comaro? which camaro? year, model

No its not true about the master cylinder, it the ABS unit that was probably damaged by not opening up the bleeder screws. The ABS actually is getting clogged from the black residue in old brake fluid. You can try the whole bleeding the brakes system a few time and flushing through new fluid, but most likely it will be dirty again in a 1K miles. I flush mine three time and it worked for a while, but eventually failed again. It is recommended to flush the brakes every 2 years, but almost no one does it.

I have a related issue....

I just replaced my rotors and pads and also didn't bleed the brakes since the pads that were on there were about 90%. I hardly had to compress the calipers. Anyways, my ABS light is not on, however I have slammed on the brakes and noticed my ABS doesn't work. Why would this be with no light on?

dgoodhue beat me to it, but Baja Resident: Do you skid out or stop fast? Slam the brakes and try to skid. If you skid, check the back of your gauges out to make sure there is a light there. The previous owner may have removed it. My Ty had no lights in the gauges whatsoever....
