Needed not available parts?

Just curious, being here in Michigan we have a ton of people and shops at our disposal. Are there any parts that the general group needs that we can no longer get? Things that could be made if we knew the right people? The reason I ask is more than once I have had things made when I need them, things that most people get told are not available and that is the end of it... Let me know, maybe we can resurrect some long forgotten parts!

For example I just heard that the transmission TV cable is not available any longer...

Re: Needed not available parts?

Not a necessary part by any means but I would like to see the "skid plate/air deflector/belly pan/thingy reproduced. I spoke with Mr. King about getting it made out of CF but he needs an original to make a mold first.
The console lid with hinge would be another good item to have.
The problem with having things made for these trucks is the lack of consumers. After an initial group purchase demand falls off to the point where fulfilling subsequent orders nets very little to no profit unless the mark up puts the price out of reason. My hat is off to our collection of supporting vendors. They have done an amazing job of coming up with wonderful products that are reasonably priced considering the limited customer base.
It would be nice to have more hard to come by parts available new instead of waiting and hoping that they show up used somewhere.

Everything is discontinued.

MINT Center caps would sell for $100> all day long.

If I had the choice on what to make for these trucks. It would be cladding. Specifically the front fender and rear corners. Most other parts turn up,just that cladding prices are insane.

Re: Needed not available parts?

the rubber seals
stickers
rear quarter glass

Rubber seals and weatherstripping is available through LMC.
Decals are available on Ebay or Stickerbomb.
There are a million Blazers and Jimmys in scrap yards for glass.

the rubber is not as good as gm and too expensive and looks/fits different(door window molding/around quarter glass)
decal color is off slightly from original- you cant get originals
even if you get glass in the junk yard the seals needs replaced and last time gm was available it was $400 per side.
all the original cladding is dry rotting/brittle and way too expensive for what it is- quality wise

Re: Needed not available parts?

Hmm, the cladding would be a hard one. It could be done, but it would not be cheap. Something like that would have to be researched and then a pre purchase deal would have to be set up...I can only imagine the cost...

Rubber seals can be worked with, there are many suppliers out there...I agree that the LCM stuff sux.

Decals are no issue, we have many good graphics places...

Center caps....hmmm...I will look into these...

Re: Needed not available parts?

Cladding is probably the biggest issue. I believe that carbon 34 has some on the radar, and there is a guy on eBay that sells fiberglass stuff. Last I checked, the guy didn't have an auction for rear corners but he said he had them I believe. Not sure of fit

The driver's rear corner piece on my Ty is fiberglass. It fits fine; if you compare it to an OEM piece there are slight differences in the shape, but not noticeable unless you really look.

Re: Needed not available parts?

Surprised nobody has taken a complete set of mint ground effects for the Sy or Ty and had them made in China. They seem to be able to replicate everything else sent there.... But on the other hand how many people with a 20 yr old truck needing a set. Are ready to step up for sticker price of $2000 + for such.
Eventually the supply of the orig OEM cladding will dry up. But at the least I see Sy and Ty rear corners being made someplace. Front fenders too. All in the original plastic.

Don't count on it.......I made myself a custom set with TYPHOON engraved instead of GMC and posted pics a few years ago( just showing what I had done not trying to sell) and received offers of up to 175.00 for the set:squint:

I think sportmachines is doing a great job of getting us parts and products for our trucks:tup:

I would think that there would be a handful of guys that would buy those center caps if you made them.
Anyone else ever use fiberglass cladding?

woah...I never saw those either. I had wanted to make those for a long time and just never got the kick in the butt to do it...plus I don't have stock wheels now so I didn't personally have a need for them

they look great!

Re: Needed not available parts?

getting a manufacturer in china to replicate the cladding would be a nightmare. ive had a few friends send stuff over there to be made and some companys spoke no English, others took months to get back to you, then you finally find a company you think is going to work and the product is just junk. There isn't a lot of oversight- they take you money, and you get what you get. When their reputation gets bad enough- they "close" and the next day they have a new name

just look at all the imports with their body kids and how many hundreds of hours of body work it takes to get them to fit correctly, and you know 99% of the community would want a perfect fit- if gaps were off people would flip- and so would i

an average set of cladding is almost worth what a rough typhoon goes for these days- but its the same problem as everything else- only certain pieces are in high demand so to get a company to make and stock full sets of cladding for a reasonable price would be really hard.
