I don't think the Allison would be a practical solution.
Its bigger and heavier than the 4L80E. That probably implies that it will "use" more power than the 80E (parasitic losses) but also due to its weight will require more power to run the same et's / mph.
The output shaft is likely to be the same size or bigger than the 4L80E (which doesn't fit the BW4472 either) so maybe that isn't any worse, but its not any better.
They're also pretty expensive. I think you could find a reasonably "cheap" 4L80e but I doubt you'll find inexpensive Allisons (or even inexpensive cores for rebuiliding). Mostly because you will only find them in the 8.1 or 6.6 TD trucks from the last couple years.
All in all, I don't know that its a worthwhile thing to pursue. For the money you'd spend, I think you could jump into a Lenco or Liberty 5speed planetary, and not be any slower or poorer. And it certainly would be high on the cool factor list. Then all you'd have to figure out is how to build boost at the starting line.
