While I may not have a Syclone or a Typhoon I am building a 95 Vortec 4.3 to run similar to them. I currently have on a stand a 95 "W" Vortec. Now to say the least, the Intake and Fuel injection design by far is the worst I have EVER seen. Here's where things get real interesting. I have plans for Low 12's to High 11's with this engine in a 2700 lb vehicle. Now the real kicker It's going into a Fiero. Now please don't run away yet. Here's where I need help. I'm trying to locate part numbers for the engines internals that will be needed. I know for sure I'll have to change out the Rods, Pistons, Cam, Rockers, Intake, Throttle body, Exhaust, Turbo, Intercooler, Injectors and the ECM. Whew that's pretty much the whole thing. My plans are to take this build over time so I can keep up with my wallet. Projected completion of the car will be 2 years. Maybe less if I land this new position that I'm applying for.

Now I ask will you help me? No I don't want to go FAST for CHEAP. No I am not completely inexperienced. I have no clue who all makes 4.3 performance parts. Or much about selecting Pistons and Rods. Also how do the Turbo vs Non Turbo Cranks compare?

BTW When are you comming back to Dallas SWEDE!

The SyTy engine is the same as the regular S-truck TBI engine (LB4, VIN code Z), but with lower compression pistons, different head gaskets, and nodular iron caps. Besides the obvious stuff like intake and exhaust...

The CPI W-code engine has a balance shaft, I believe, which actually makes it weaker.

The 4.3L is basically a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off. Many of the same parts can be used.

You might want to talk to vortecfiero. He knows a little bit about this stuff. =) See http://www.cardomain.com/id/vortecfiero for details...

Ballance shaft? Is that a type of crankshaft? Educate me on that please. I will get in contact with vortecfiero on this matter too.

Swede I'm going to have to search some but did you ever show the pics taken behind Fry's? One Syclone with about 40 DSM's behind it? That was a fun day. Pregnant wife requied us to get rid of our DSM for a family car. But I have my project!

I'm far from an expert on this... Because of the way they modified the V8 design to get the V6, the V6 is not perfectly balanced. The balance shaft is something added that helps counteract the unbalance of the V6. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it's not the crankshaft. http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/V engine has some more general info about it. http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/V6 kinda too.

balance shaft pics

balance shaft pics

i have a balance shaft in my typhoon, it makes it run extremely smoother, but the down side is some say that the block is weaker and there is more rotating mass, but i still love how nice it idles and runs, it makes it easier on the motor mounts

if you closely look under the innerr cover you can see the shaft, it runs off the timing gear set i believe, notice the different timing cover than the 88-92 blocks

I had to lighten this up a bit. Too bad it was said to be ALL MY FAULT we didn't get lined up before dark. My stupid Nitro RC car. :rotf:
My car got stuck way in back. Oh well.

Thanks for the images of the Balange shaft now I can go out and check my engine for one. I don't really care though if it has it or not.

So now I'm curious what are the parts of choice?

Pistons P/N
Rods P/N
Cam P/N
Rockers P/N
Valves P/N
This will help me in getting the parts gathered to do my conversion.

Thanks again.

Ok so far I have located the part numbers for the pistons and rods I'm going to use. What is a common Mild cam that's being used these days with mildly modded engines. I'm hunting for a 350+ hp range. I'm pretty sure that the stock cam would work but what other options are out there? Also what rocker ratio works best with each?

And lastly vortecfiero has yet to reply so I guess his work is secret.
