Hello everyone my name is Greg. I have a question. I currently own a 2002 Lightning free and clear and I need some money. The question is, which would you rather have the Lightning or a Syclone (w/ 15K-30K miles) and $15,000? Thanks for your advise! :-?

Well, coming to this board will net you some biased viewpoints ;)

How well do you deal with a truck that has reliability issues?
Are you a good wrench? Are you good with maintenance? or are you a person that will just take it to a dealership and won't touch a wrench?

Are you willing to invest some of that $15k savings into the truck to make it right?

I am teh kingpin!
i'd sell the 2002 and find a cheaper 98 lighting. stay away from the syclone. just will cause more headaches.

my friend had a 99 L, and i loved that truck. the space and power and looks just kicked ass.

I'm no mechanic, but I like to learn and I have a ton of tools. I also have a friend who is a drivetrain manager at a local Chevy dealer, and my father-in-law builds and races dragsters and has connections with everyone that sell's high performance parts. And yes I would be willing to spend some of the money. No more that $5000. But first things first, those rims have got to go. I'll put 17" ZR1's on (9.5" in the front and 11" in the back). How does this sound? How fast do you think I could get with spending $3500 on performance other than the rims (suspension, engine mods), and remember I only pay cost. I go to Moroso Motor Sports Park on certain days and my father-in-law and his buddies rent the track, so I would get to run the thing often. Which means I can't get to overboard. It has to be a good daily driver.

99' is the first year of the second generation Lightning. And don't get me wrong I love my lightning, but I've always liked the syclone.

Rims are a good choice. Put another $1000 into reliability/tune up/maintenance as soon as you get it. Save a few grand for stuff breaking and whatnot. If you put all the money you are willing to spend on the truck for performance, you may need nearly the same amount to fix problems.
