New owner in Maryland finally!

Hi y'all! I'm Danny. Ill have a picture up or two of my new toy, but i recently picked up Sy #2813 from a kid here in Maryland. He had been lettting it sit and was for sale so I grabbed up on that offer. I like my S-trucks too much not to have a SyTy in my life at some point. Needless to say she was looking a little rough. Some cladding issues on the passenger side, leaky oil to turbo lines, leaky valve covers, leaky leaky leaky. Cleaned all that mess up and did some basic gaskets around it to hopefully last till summer when the engines coming out and I can get her all apart with some fresh gaskets all throughout. Lines will be taken care of shortly with a block Mount filter I've been checking out and done before on one of my S10s and some snazzy A/N lines givin the turbo some slick stuff. The chassis of the truck was pretty well off surprisingly, she's got a little rust on the wheel wells where the cladding crowns at, and will need a passenger side fender. Nothing hateful but far from clean as I'd like to see it. Anyways when I picked up the truck, kid had done plugs, wires cap/rotor, water pump, starter wire issue resolved and threw in a prop shaft and some kinda 3" downpipe back exhaust, then the transmission decided to go ka-plooey two days later...but it has 136K and maintenance has been far from exceptional. I don't I think I ever used that amount of cuss words in such a short span of time lol but that's finally been taken care of after discussing it with Sport Machines and a few members on the Facebook page. That should be back to me within the next two weeks on account of the snow (its so teasing) but in the meantime she's been on this stretch of down time, I've taken the following into account and got to work:

- Got the toothbrushes and scotch brites and went to work. She was messy.
- NGK UR5 plugs set at .028
- MSD 8MM wires w/fiberglass shrouding on the hot stuff
- AC Delco Cap/Rotor (will be upgrading ignition when engine comes out later)
- Acquired a laptop and purchased Data master + cable to get the scoop on things
- HotWired the IC pump which was Non-Op. Replaced with a Johnson unit
- Re-routing the IC lines into Pass fender well
- Fuel filter
- ISO of a cold-air unit but utilizing factory setup with a drop in
- Sport Machines Vacuum lines + EGR removal
- Transmission upgraded thru RPM with 5pinion planetaries and other goodies. I'm a firm believer there's no point in building an engine if your trans will just take a poop.
- 160° thermostat
- Installed boost gauge that I had laying around (its a sun pro, but its accurate amazingly enough)
- fresh coolant lines throughout it
- Really considering A/C delete. I'm tossed between repairing my system or just ditching it and holding on to it. I don't know yet
- OHH...and I forgot to add the stock turbo might have to be rebuilt... its got a little perimeter play in the shaft, but so far it hasn't become an alarming issue. Wheels still nicely intact. She's staying out of any major boost until I see what's going on with the computer

But anyways that's what I'm working with, any insight or help would be awesome and I'm glad to say that after many years of seeing a matchbox Syclone as a kid, I can finally get dirty with one Haha. Thanks y'all!

Welcome, sounds like you have quite the project on your hands. I just recently picked up a Ty as a driver and have found myself fixing little things daily with it.

Hope to see some progress out of your build, sounds like you dove head first into it already. Good luck, there is a lot of good info and knowledgeable people here.

Thanks man! I didn't really plan on diving headfirst into it yet, after all I only bought her a few gallons of 93 and then she put out lol majority of the time has been cleaning. Just the thought of it sitting for over a year in what I presume was a field just irked me and my ocd. In the long run, the trans having to come out and this emergency tune up really got me familiar with the truck and that's priceless knowledge. I could read all the info on the sites all day everyday (which I did get real familiar with the search button and just cruising all the threads) but I wouldn't have applied it all so quickly. As much of a pain in the butt it is to work on, I could do it all day. That's something I couldn't say about my other trucks. Just nothing special about em

Nice start. Welcome. Looks like you know where the search bar is too. Lots around here will appreciate that.

Personally speaking, ditch the AC...especially if yours already is in need of repair.

Re: New owner in Maryland finally!

Kid had the truck # posted on his ad so that was the first thing I did was run the # and it brought that thread up among others so at least I had "some" idea of what its past life was. I'm assuming for posting pictures, I have to upload to like photo bucket or something and hot link from there? Apparently there's a few years wait on pictures of it on here lol I get to show off a nifty-difty little H/E scoop that's more or less been a time occupier while I'm waiting on some more goodies.

Just starting the tear down before the tune up and coolant line relocation

The mockup of the scoop. Adjusting and trimming for a good fit. Used a pic off of GM HighTech for reference.

Welcome!

Wow, the Northeast has gained a lot of trucks over the past few months. Unfortunately we lost one to Arizona but man, NASTE Meets are gonna be big!

Re: New owner in Maryland finally!

Thanks y'all! @ Sycho I'm in Harford County. Good driving roads out there in Delmarva man. Is there anything in OC that you know of for SyTys? One day is like to attend one of the big meets that get together! I still have a lot to learn and dialing in with my truck, but one day. Haha. It seems to be that to have a reliable truck: knowledge, skill, patience and a bank account that can take some damage seem to work pretty well lol I will be looking for some cladding soon. I need a rocker panel and the beds passenger rear quarter. Rest of it is fair enough to repair.

Re: New owner in Maryland finally!

cool little update since ive been driving it, about a month ago i ran the truck at Cecil County dragstrip here in MD and i managed to get 3 passes in...mind you my first time running something with 4 wheels at the track ha. anyways heres the times and the slips. 13.75 @ 98.23 , 13.52 @ 98.76 , 13.33 @ 100.33 last pass with miles climbing daily. Funny story about that too is after i paid entry and am cruising down to the pits a white on white typhoon appears coming the other way and it ended up being Sycho on here, cool suprise having both a Sy and a badass Ty. i had front row seats to his little infamous video sitting in the lanes waiting to run for his last pass. real cool guy. anyways front ends coming apart this weekend for a nice little overhaul from axles to tierods, shocks are in desparate need of repair but i take it easy thru turns and avoid bumps as much as possible which is very hard to do here, so im holding off for now and both the arms dont have much play, but theyll be changed later when i find a zq8 box.

but recently.... i am in need of a rear passenger side corner cladding (thats alot to say) since my frankenstein'd one succumbed to marylands fun roads and the passenger side rocker cladding is in need of replacement aswell but thats how it was when i got it so all in good time, its not like it makes it any slower or less fun to drive lol

Re: New owner in Maryland finally!

@Sycho naw i didnt get a chance to head down to the OC Cruisin Week but im kinda curious to head down for the AWD meet and get to play with some imports.

@Syclone22 thanks bud! i was certainly suprised when i ran my first pass and was asked about helmet, i was certain id get a 14.xx pass out of it but i cannot complain with almost touching 12.xx's lol i think i can get it there by the end of summer and still be able to keep things running "smooth".... with heavy emphasis on the quotations lol

But overall the truck has been a joy and a pain in the ass at the same time but i wouldnt have it any other way. Shes about to be touching 142K on the clock and climbing, i still wanna do a few precautionary things to it to ensure some kinda reliability but its start to put a running/driving Sy on jackstands anymore lol thanks for the help guys!
