I emailed gmpartsdirect and am waiting to hear back from them. May take a few days. Sucks that they don't have a phone #.
that took all of about 5 minutes to find.Flow Automotive

I get an email back from gmpartsdirect and they say a local dealership WILL warranty the ecm. So I go to the dealership and they can't help me. I call gmpartsdirect (thanks for the phone number, midnightblus10) and then they tell me I need to have the ecm programmed. Boy, do I feel stupid. I didn't know but now I do. It's going to cost $105.xx
You are kidding! On the computers for our trucks the programming is in the chip. You should be able to just put your chip in it and go. If it is a good unit.
That's what I was thinking. Put it in and go but the instructions on how to open the ecm say they do not come with a new chip just the unit. The guy at gm says I should have gotten one.
Does anybody know how the dealership goes about programming the new ecm? Do I need to have my truck there? The reason I ask is because of all the mods it has done to it. They said they program it to stock emissions settings. I don't see how they will be able to do that if my truck isn't stock.
Do you have anyone that is experienced in these trucks that lives near you that can look at it for you?

I call BS on needing the ECM "programed.". The program is in your chip not in the ECM, if I'm wrong that's new news to me. :dunno:
I'd bet the tech hasn't been in the business long, and all he knows is programming the ecm, like on newer model vehicles
Is the dealership the only place I can go to get the ecm programmed if in fact that is what I need?
