DUDE you got a TATTOO
After getting my APU1 auto prom and GP1 from moates.net, I must admit that I was TOTALLY LOST!!! Due to very vague instructions. I began to search everywhere I could to figure out how to hook all of this stuff up and figure out what went where. So here is my list of links that i have compiled while learning to emulate.
- Please correct me on any mistakes I may make, because I am still very much a newbie at this.
First of all I was like a kid on Christmas when I got my package including the APU1 and the GP1from Craig. After all the excitement I thought, "how am I gonna get all of this to work??" so HEREhere is more documentation on how to put all the items in sequence.
The Thing to notice here is that the GP1 I received was equipped with a ZIF socket. When looking at the GP1 like you see pictured, the red line on the ribbon cable that is attached to the APU1 on the left side or the farthest away from any pin's or writing on the board.
Be sure to pay attention to installing the memcal onto the GP1 correctly as it can be turned either way.
After hooking these items together, I installed the included TunerProRT software and drivers from the CD to my laptop.
I then downloaded the Awesomely patched ALDL Patched Binary or .BIN from TURBODIGhttp://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46139&highlight=bin the ALDL Definition File or .ADS and the .XDF file from NWSTP - Thanks!! and I was on my way out to the mighty SY.
After a long time of trial and error, searching and asking questions on the board here, I found out that both switches are to be set to the inboard position (towards the USB port) for simultaneous Emulation and Datalogging.
Then make both connections from the ALDL link under the dash to the cat 5 connector on the unit and the USB from the computer to the port on the APU and try to remember to use the same USB port on the computer whenever you connect to keep down the com port conflicts.
After all connections are made, and before you turn the key on, fire up the trusty laptop and start TunerProRT. After it is up and running, click on the Tools menu and go to preferences, then go to the ALDL/Emulation tab. You will see the default interface type is MAX232/2-Trans/AP. That needs to be changed to AutoProm. (this may be different if running the Ostrich.) Apply that and hit OK.
Next click on File then Open Bin or (Ctrl +O) and select the downloaded .BIN from TurboDig. At this point, then click on XDF and then Select XDF or (Ctrl + E) and select the XDF file from NWSTP. Last but not least, Click on Tools, then ALDL/Datalog, then Setup or (F4) and under the definition file, locate the .ADS file.
At this point, click on Tools, then Initialize Attached Hardware. and finally use the UP arrow to upload the current .BIN to the ECM.
Congratulations!!! You should be Emulating and Datalogging!!

Thanks for your patients and sorry for being so long winded in this, but I have scoured the internet for a thread like this, and I just want to help some fellow newbies out.
