O2 sensor swap - #$&^%* that thing was tight!

Installed a new Bosch O2 sensor on the Sy today. What I thought would be a 30 minute job turned into more like 1.5 hours. The original O2 sensor was so tight, I had to cut it in half, soak it in penetrating spray, and then use an impact gun at 100+ psi for like 30 seconds before it finally came out  Anyway, the new sensor went in without incident - I used plenty of anti-seize - but Christ almighty, that thing was cooked in there! Just an FYI for anyone who thinks they can change a Sy/Ty O2 sensor with hand tools. Good luck

We did mine with hand tools, If I remember right, it was 1/2 socket wrench with a pipe on the end, or something like that....but yeah, they're a bitch.....

Just like life, some are tighter than others...

We have CRC 5-56, or what you might call WD-40 :)

Works gr8.

Just lube it up, let it work for 10-15 min, then take it off.

My ass. Look at it.
Yeah, I changed mine out last night and Holy Jesus was it stuck. I used the dub-D but I only used hand tools, I actually bent  my 22mm wrench I bought JUST for this job, then again it was an el cheapo unit from auto idiots.

Hmm.. Weird. Not even my old SAAB had that problem. You guys must drive the trucks like old ladies? 8)

bent an asian metal extension inside the o2 socket trying to remove mine.

Then I went to sears, bought craftsman stuff.

Then the o2 socket wanted to open up and spin around the o2. I put some hose clamps around the socket (2 of em) too make sure it wouldnt spread. From there it still took all my effort to loosen the o2.

Bitch is it wasnt like it broke loose, it was tight as hell for a full 2-3 rotations.

Then again I've seen em spin out without an effort

The manuals I've read all say you're supposed to drive it for a bit to get it warmed up so it loosens up some. Hopefully that tidbit helps someone...

Big in the rear
Hell i cut the wire pounded on the socket, sliped a 1ft 1/2 drive B Bar on, then what i like to call the Bitch maker, 6ft long 15#'s of 2in steal pipe, it came of with ease.

Forced to by choice
Try getting the front end link crap off a truck thats been siting for 40+ years with hand tools.. Thats what I had to do with my very first truck, a 1950 Chevy pickup.. it was fun thought! :D
