Oil pan acess?

I need to drop my pan and check the bottom end. I was told instead of jacking the motor that I can drop the cross member to gain acess. Is this easier than jacking the engine? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jason.

the only way you're gonna drop the cross member is with a sawzall or a plasma cutter.

Im not sure who told you that info, but they are dead wrong.

I don't remember and I haven't even given it a look. Guess I'll be lifting the engine, awsome! This is going to be fun.

Lift the motor if you like but having just done this myself I'd just remove the front dif and be done with it. That way it's out of the way and it will make checking the bearings much easier. Also when the pan goes back = much easier. Admittedly I have not tried the lifting the motor method but considering things like motor mounts, hoses, access to turbo lines, pulling the dif seems better to me. Have fun.

I did this last weekend and all it takes is one 18mm offset box end (short) 6.5" or less. You unbolt the the diif and the passenger side flange. Unbolt the motor and use a small scissor jack or bottle jack to jack the motor up on the balancer till it hits the tunnel. That will provide you just enough room to get the oil pan out.

I'm an idiot. Sorry morgan the front diff is what I meant not the crossmember. Guess I'll get home and check it out. Got a couple friends eager to help so I might as well take them up on it. Thanks guys.

Re: Oil pan acess?

Ok what is the trick to getting the front diff out? Take a lower control arm off? How does one get past the diff mounts? Damn it I hate this truck but love it so much!! Please help me!
