Re: Oooops
Well guys, I must say that this is working out to be the "Perfect Storm".
After all these months we finally got the engine back in the truck, complete with all of the requisite "as long I'm here" mods, i.e. cam, custom pistons and rods, porting/polishing, TB, Stall TC, wideband, blah, blah, blah. Took it out for a preliminary test run and damn near got a concussion when it shifted into 2nd gear.....and it didn't shift out of second until about 45 mph!!! Oh, and the fun wasn't over yet, when it hit 3rd it slid into gear like a squishy marshmallow and then the rpm went up about 2 grand......as the truck slowed down! WTF? Did it again, with the same results ( Isn't insanity defined as doing the same thing over and over again and
expecting different results???) I'm definitely not crazy, my transmission is toast!! Shit on a stick! I'm not sure what happened, but I've never lost an engine
and a transmission at the same time, until now

.
Haven't pulled the pan off yet, but tranny fluid doesn't look or smell burnt. It has never given any indication that that it was in trouble. Hell, the entire truck only has 42k miles on it, and I've owned it since 14K miles. But here I am, having blown the engine an tranny in one fell swoop.
We've been trying to figure out what caused the engine to grenade, and kinda chalked it up to maybe detonation over time, age (not the driver's), etc. Since the shit hit the fan just as the truck was shifting into 3rd, we're starting to wonder if a transmission failure didn't bring about the engine failure by instantaneously causing the engine to over rev into oblivion.
Has anybody had a similar experience???
