pcv spraying oil into throttle body

I am in the process of removing and cleaning my upper and lower intake manifolds. When I took them off they were filthy with oil. It looks like it was coming from the pcv inlet into the throttle body.

Is this normal or is something wrong?
If it is normal how do I change it?

I have the pcv's with "E" on the bottom. Could they be bad?

Take the pcv valve out and shake it... if it rattles it's ok.. if you don't hear a rattle then it's clogged and needs to be replaced... chances are if it's ten years old then you should switch it out... it's normal for the system to puke some oil... think your intake looks bad then take off your x-over pipe from the turbo to the air box....

I replaced them about 2 years/20,000 miles ago and they still do rattle. I was just wondering about all of the oil in the intake manifold. It had to be getting into the cylinders and I think that is waht was causing my detination.

Can I put a catch can in line to keep oil from getting to the throttle body? If so where can I get one?

I just was told something about this this weekend By Daron and Josh. The black oil film is not normal. It is from worn rings. and various other things. Many have put catch cans on and they do work at filtering the fumes/oil. Daron said when he took his apart it was clean. Probly due to Alky though.

What I saw on Clone's (Josh) truck:
Put a breather on the oil cap and remove the PCV from the TB. Route one PCV from valve cover to the filter before turbo because you will always have suction there from the turbo pulling air in. If you do this you should be OK. The oil won't hurt anything in the uper and lower intake but yes if it is heavy it could cause detonation because of the oil consumption. Best bet would be to run TEC that will help some after you clean it all out.

I would reccomend doing a cylinder leakage test and getting an idea about what kind of shape your engine is in.

You can also run Alky and steam clean things. This is the rout I'm going to go after the wallet heals over the top end rebuild.
