Re: Pitman arm replacement

I would think so. But we have never tried to do in a truck. Give it a try and let us know.

Re: Pitman arm replacement

When I did mine I had to because space is extremely limited since the pitman arm nut is damn near on the cross member. Mines a 4x4 but its exactly the same on the typhoon too

Re: Pitman arm replacement

Haven't actually done it but I've had the box loose and it looks like you could turn it enough. If it were me I'd remove the bumper and lower IC to get to it. I'm also curious how it goes.

Re: Pitman arm replacement

I had to take the box out...bumper and IC removed as well. It's a p.i.t.a job for sure...took bout 4hours with no puller. But damn what a difference.

Re: Pitman arm replacement

i just curious on how do you remove the pitman arm without a puller ??? without destroying the box ?

Was a few years back, the only time I've done/seen the job, so my memory is a bit hazey. What I remember is getting the box out of the truck and in a vice, then my bud welded something, can't remember what, to the arm itself and pried it right off. Took him about 5min maybe..? Maybe he used a cutoff wheel too since it was out of the truck? I don't remember. Thankfully everything turned out good on my truck...and cheap.

Not necessarily. Other factors involved. Slop within the gear itself is a big one.

Re: Pitman arm replacement

how about ball joints?

Lower ones take all the load. Support the a-arm so the weight is off the knuckle and try to move it back and forth. Look for movement in both joints but especially the lower. There should be no movement. IE play in the joint itself.

If you're talking about tie-rod ends no slop allowed here either. So in a nutshell no slop allowed anywhere. It will show-up as play in the steering wheel. You could just have the whole front end checked by a reliable shop then decide what to do next. Ask them if you can watch while they do it so you can see where the issues are.
