Is the plastic deflector behind the CAC under the front of the truck still available, if not is it necessary for cooling or anything else

AFAIK, it is not available. I think Jim Longwith (www.geocities.com/motorcity/5478 longwith@comporium.net)
makes a replica out of stainless or aluminum. On both Tys I've owned, it was already missing. It IS called out in a TSB concerning improving cooling efficiency of the AC system in warmer climates as part of the 'cure' (along with a thermal jacket for the accumulator, and a valve to cut flow to the heater core).

I was not referring to the rubber flap under the CCHE (although due to my miscommunication, I now own one.... any one want to buy it?)

I was referring to the plastic piece which attaches to the CCHE and front crossmember. This is the part in the A/C service bulletin. After looking more closely at the service bulletin, I have to agree with Lynn... ours probably has no effect on AC or cooling. The one in the service bulletin goes over the hole which is filled by our CCHE.

The part number for the plastic behind-the-CCHE-deflector is
15661647
It shows up on
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213768
for $148
but I didn't call to see if it was available.... my local dealer says it's not.

maybe I know .

maybe I know .

I am not sure if it is the right part but in my new LMC catalog on page 17 there are 3 skidplates that they carry for our trucks . If it is the right one they come plastic or aluminum . I got my catalog from LMCtruck.com . Not sure if they are the cheapest but they got em .

Nope, that's the item I had on my '91 S-Blazer 4X4. The whole center section is smack where our CCHE resides. If you cut that section out, all that's left is an expensive cover for the bottom of your frame rails.

There's a diagram showing the correct item here:
http://www.syty.org/old/pics/diagrams/cac.gif

it's item 8. it attaches to the bottom of the CCHE (as does the rubber flap) and extends rearward to the crossmember.

HTH!

ya, I'd say out of all the trucks I've looked at I can only remember seeing 1 of the plastic skid plates. thats the one that extends rearward from the cche.

it's function was supposed to help airflow through the cche. not the ac.

jim longwidth made several runs of these in alum. the s-series trucks has a skid plate there too but it was a very think alum piece and did not extend to the front as our is supposed too.,

I thought the skid plate was supposed to help air flow under the truck at high speeds.

Look like number 6 is the part you're sending me John, that's probally why my IC temps went up a little when I took it off

The rubber flap is item 7. Item 6 is the top of the CCHE 'bracket'. It's drawn poorly here. Opies CD parts book has a better drawing of it. Item 6 is the big piece of sheet metal that wants to hang up on the front bumper when you're trying to remove the CCHE. The 'wings' with 2 holes are what bolts the CCHE to the frame rails.

I do still make them if anyone needs one. Cost is $75.00 + $15.00 shipping in the U.S. Made of aluminum and will not crack like the factory plastic piece.

John, is he buying the same item you sold me? I was expecting a deflector (#8) , but was surprised to receive a rubber flap (#7). Do you have the #8 deflectors? Any chance you would be agreeable to a swap (plus cash, if the price is different)?

Thanks!
