And the shop is near completion. A guy is coming to finish the drywall next week. Im painting his truck for his as a trade. There are some good perks to managing a paint and body shop. heh Anyway, I finished all the wiring in it. The list... Front room has 8 20amp outlets, one ceiling mount tv outlet, two runs of CAT5 cable, one coax cable, one dedicaded A/C circuit, four dual T8 bulb fixtures, one ceiling fan, an alarm keypad, alarm motion sensor and door sensors. The back room has 6 20amp outlets, two dual T8 fixures, a ceiling fan mount, and an alarm motion sensor. And the outside has a motion light and one 20amp outlet. Not bad for a backyard "shed".

So I need to bypass, or hook up the neutral saftey switch. Im guessing bypassing would be easier. So I got the schematics and here is what I found for the switch.

jse_Picturesm.jpg

It looks like I need to find the light green and dark blue wires and jump them. BUT I dont see them. Are they under the hood? I dont have a SyTy engine harness, so lets hope not.

Also, do I need the Ty ECM to run the truck with the interior harness? (glad I havent sold it yet) Im using a Caprice OBDI ECM under the hood to run the LT1. Will the Typhoon ECM cause me issues? Can I bypass something to make the ignition and guages to work?

Any help would be great! thanks!

Hmmm... With what program? Like LT1 edit?

No. Skype is a free online video chat program. If you both have a camera in your laptop you can see each other live as you talk. You can do it if only you have the camera. He can see you but you won't see him. You can put a piece of the harness in front of the camera or move the laptop around like your shooting a video and Dave can see what it is and advise accordingly. Google Skype. The service is free. Great for long distance family phone calls too. You would need wireless internet in your garage though.

Ohhh I thought you mean a remote terminal access with a tuning program. If only life was that easy!

I'm kinda in the same boat right now. If you have the stock LT1 harness and computer, then you will need the Ty harness and ecm to run the gauges and cruise. You can get them merged together so the LT1 computer controls everything, but its quite $$$.

Nope. Not true. The Ty ECM doesn't have a thing to do with cruise or the gauges. This is a common misconception. The Cruise has it's own module, and the gauges have senders on the engine. They do not 'need' the ECM. They both do need a 'speed' input. In a SyTy it comes from the DRAC.

I am not familiar with what the LT1 needs for VSS. If the VSS buffer is incorporated into the LT1 ECM, (which I think it is) then there must be outputs for cruise, ABS, etc. Or it uses a speed input like SyTy does, and you would retain the DRAC.
Interesting! I'm getting ready to tackle this exact same scenerio on my SGT right now and everything that I read said you need both ecm's for everything to function properly. Guess I better do a little more research! I can see the DRAC controlling the speedo and possibly the cruise, but I don't see where the LT1 harness would interface with the oil, temp and volt gauges.

I still need to refinish the other 3 wheels in black, install the Sonoma GT bumperettes, all front end lights, install all the glass, and reassemble the dors for the exterior to be "complete".
BUT I did get it cleaned up, mocked up the bumper and pulled it out in the sun for some pictures! Man Im all fired up about seeing it completed and getting to drive it for once! WHOOO!!

That thing is looking awesome, Keep up the good work. I always wanted to do the grand sport color scheme, just don't forget the red hashes on the fender.

So yesterday I worked on wet sanding it a bit more. Smoothing out the hard line on the stripes. Slowly but surely.

Re: Project Tyclone SS: 85 Jimmy, LT1, AWD, etc

So I installed the front bumper and the bumperettes. Then added the lights to the front end.

jsw_img_5366.jpg

Then I decided to grab some thick red pinstripes and mock up my hash marks on the fender.

jsw_img_5376.jpg

Its starting to look like a Grand Sport truck!
Kinda reminds me of my old Typhoon. You can see where I got my lights and wheels from! lol

Re: Project Tyclone SS: 85 Jimmy, LT1, AWD, etc

People keep asking about the cladding. Here is the story.

In the beginning a had a neat Blazer.
100_6703.jpg

Originally I was planning on just using stock blazer bumpers to keep it cheap. I bought a parts Blazer and gutted it for parts.
100_4577.jpg

Then I found the wrecked Typhoon. I bought that and decided to use the full cladding to a make a Typhoon clone. Thats where I got my full interior down to the harness, my driveshaft, and lots of other misc parts.
100_6419_op.jpg

So I was going to use the full cladding.
100_9873.jpg

I then found another Typhoon that I could fix with some of the Typhoon parts I had from the wrecked one.
100_8400.jpg

101_1219.jpg

After all my nightmares with broken cladding tabs and the constant question I would get, "is it a real one?" I would proudly reply, "Yes it is 1992 Typhoon #2344." Thats about the time that I realized by using the Typhoon cladding would make the truck a cheap dime-a-dozen copy of a rare truck. So I had to figure out how to use the front bumper cover from the Typhoon. To do this I had to find a pair of Sonoma GT bumperettes. Did I mention that GM only made 806 of them? So I got them and a Sonoma GT gauge cluster, which is the same as the Typhoon's except with no boost gauge. So thats where this truck was going to REALLY be a one of a kind custom Jimmy!

Yeah I have been debating that myself. That's why I haven't painted them on. Scared of hash mark commitment! Lol

The look is getting there! I need to rework my stripes as they are WAY off from what they should be.
