PROM Problem

I am a new member. I have a 1993 Typhoon. I am on my third engine and third transmission. I am having some problems with the PROM, as a result, I cannot use the chip set or 3 bar. Does anyone know of anybody who can program/burn the PROM to accomodate the specifics of engine. Just trying to get the thing working to its full potential right now. I have a chip set from Turbo right now, the Ultimate Chip set I had (ver 3) just did not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: PROM Problem

Being on the 3d engine and transmission the PROM is the last thing you've had problems with Lol..

The guy at JS manufacturing hooked me up on a 3bar chip with all the basic limits taken off. It's been good for a baseline. I've got the autoprom and will be doing my own chips/programs soon.
For your situation I'd give him a call and see if he can help ya.
Or Waller Performance.. he's able to do that also (803)546-1897

Thanks for the input. The second time my engine went was due to a dealer messing up. I had it in there for some work and they damaged the engine, so they had to replace it on their dime. This last time, the oil rings stuck - primarily due to the new chipset I had in there without updating the engine. Now that I've redone the entire engine from scratch I am having a problem with the PROM/chip working within the parameters of the new engine build. Asa result, I had to disconnect the chip and only use 30lb injectors down from the 50's I had in there. That's OK for now while I am breaking in the engine and allowing the computer to get up to speed, but for what I put in the thing and what I was promised - barely street legal, I am not quite excited. I was "told" that the people who put together my engine were confident in hp's in the 800's. It is not there yet, though it is much stronger than before.

Again, thank you for your input.

Your not going to get 800 hp out of 50# injectors or a PTE51 probably closer to 500-550 hp range is more realistic. It sound like you engine is out of tune, it sounds like a classic case of a catalog truck (lot money in parts with subpar performance) that should be a lot faster than it is. It sounds like your not DIY and will need some help tuning your truck. I would contact an expereince tuner chuch Dig, Nolan, Phillip Long, (to name a few) and go from there.

Re: PROM Problem

It may be out of tune, only have 500 miles on the new engine. Just can't get it to run correctly with the chipset that I have. It will run, lots more get up and go, but not the way it should and I don't want to go onto engine #4 - the wife would divorce me!! As for the hp, I didn't expect 800 hp though the compression ratios are good, the CAM is decent etc., and the engine parts are allegedly top of the line. You are right, however, I am not a DIY - if I were, I could have saved a lot of money, but since I don't have the amount of time necessary to do it myself, I have to depend on the expertise of others. I've owned this since 1993 - in fact, it is only the second car I've ever owned, the first, a 1979 Hurst Olds that I bought new, is still in my garage. Haven't driven it since 1993. Thank you for the input however, if after the PROM is burned and it still does not run right, I wil contact the individuals you mentioned in your reply. How do I contact them BTW?
