Re: Q about install heads with Cometic (+)
for the love of god use some kinda sealer on the threads going into block/water jacket.. my engine builder says he uses black RTV on studs but i've been told pipe dope also etc etc.. All i know is ARP studs with the moly lube THEY say to use end up leaking coolant out the heads like a B##%#. after letting mine run i have coolant sitting in the low spots around the rockers really awesome. Pulling heads to fix it soon..which really sucks with adj roller rockers on studs.
lol. The moly lube is only for the nut end. It provides no sealing ability. It is only used to get a truer, more consistent torque reading than what is possible on a dry surface or surface coated motor oil.
It's ok, a friend of mine, that's a gearhead, used teflon tape on the threads of his head bolts. Then he couldn't figure out why he kept loosing water in the radiator & why his plugs were wet. So do not try to use teflon tape!
We all learn something everyday.
You can use the ARP teflon thread sealer on the block side to seal the threads. I used this thread sealer last time & had no leaks.
I chose not to use the silicone sealer due to the fact it's a PITA to clean out during a tear-down.
Lacquer thinner or acetone to clean the block & head mating surfaces.
I have no input on the copper coat.
