Question about connecting the fuel rail to injectors

I'm trying to install my new 50 # injectors from RPM and I'm having a hell of a time. I can't seem to get the fuel rail bolted down. The injectors are clicked into place and the caps on the fuel rail match up nicely to the injectors. I just can't get the fuel rail down far enough to bolt it down. I did put some oil on the O-rings so it should slide on. Any suggestions?

Re: Question about connecting the fuel rail to injectors

you either need to seat the injectors into the intake manifold further, or get the rail pushed down further...or both. Its tough, especially if you are using new dry rubber grommets. If you can't work them on just use a tiny bit of lube on the rubber and it'll seat on way easier.

make sure you're using 2 new o-rings per injector....The cold weather may be complicating this for you....This may not work for you but we put some o-rings in the microwave oven just for a few seconds, lubed them up and they went right in....Be careful not to cook them if you try this!!! Just get them warm....Also, fully seat all 6 injectors in either the intake manifold or fuel rail before pushing them all the way down....one or the other....I usually use WD40 as a lube to get them seated.....hth

It's alot easier with the upper manifold off to apply equal pressure to the rails but not too much pressure, the rails are delicate. Don't bother putting the clips back on.

Agreed. Mine clicked in with ease since I had the upper off. Its 6 bolts, and if you have a port and polish kit, you can hone out the extra metal on the runners as well while you have it off.

I just put mine in a little while ago. I was told to make sure I didn't get them pushed down too far. If you can't twist them back and forth without too much effort, you could be bottoming out the injector on the manifold. I hear this is a common factory problem that will cause a ticking sound and I assume inaccurate fuel injection.

definatly split the intake, i tried to do it without spliting the intake and even had a buddy help and all i ended up doing was having to rethread one of the bolt holes for the rails. and the grease trick really works.

I use Vaseline on the O-rings. Works great!

I'm actually putting my 50's on again tommorow. Taking the upper manifold off is the easiest method. You might need a swivel to get to a couple of bolts.

NEED MORE LUBE ON THE RUBBERS!!!!!!!!

This post would work on a porn forum as well.

There is a product called "door ease" it's a round tube that almost looks like wax, but it works awesome for stuff like that.

The only time i ever had to take the upper off was when replacing the fuel rail one time.....why take it off and ruin a good gasket for a simple injector swap? i agree, the rails are delicate, but why split the intakes? :dunno:

i like to use a tab of white lithium greese in the o-rings... you'd be amazes how easy it makes it. as for the gasket, as long as you are careful, 90% of the upper/lower gaskets can be re-used.. doesnt hurt to have a spare handy, but it does making seating the injectors much easier if you remove the upper... also a good time to clean up the vacuum lines as well...

Cool, I'll try taking off the upper intake today and see what happens. The fuel rail doesn't seem to be hitting the intake, but I'm so frustrated I'll try anything right now. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanx for the help guys.

And just some motor cleaning as well.

make sure you didnt bend the rail(s) to much when pushing down on them, If you bent it a little to far you wont be able to get one or 2 of the injectors to seat right. ;)
