radiator heater core port plug solution?

Anybody have ideas on plugging the coolent port on the pas side of the radiator that's normally ran to one of the heater core lines??

I rerouted that line to the aux port on my water pump and need to plug that port. I've tried the lame rubber caps from the local parts store.. they blow, only last about a month or two before cracking and leaking.

Weld it up.
Maybe weld -an bung on it then put cap on in case you want to use it sometime down the road.

When you get a new radiator, get the one without it.

I used a cpvc style rubber cap, you can find them at the local hardware store (h/d lowes) and a screw clamp have never had a problem.

damn.. was hoping that there was a quick and easy solution that everyone was using

but this sounds pretty easy i'll have to look around

They have similar plugs at most auto parts stores... just a rubber cap, really.

that's what i've been using so far but they only last a month in a half to two months before they start cracking and eventually letting go.

sucks man! I used one ot those for a few days only, can't tell you how durable they are.

Same thing happened to me. I don't think the rubber they make the vaccum caps out of hold up well to the chemicals in the radiator. I switched to the cpvc cap and have not had a probelm yet running well over a year now.

ok all I did was cut some heaterhose and plug one end up with a 1/2in fitting with some rtv all around it and then clamp it down, its held fine for months may not look that pretty but who really can see it anyway.

Napa part # 660-1695 (3/4" radiator bypass cap, 2pk), and a 3/4"-1" ss screw clamp

The vacuum cap only lasts a few months.

ACDelco makes an actual radiator plug just for this. I now have one on my Sy. It's alot more robust than the other style. Maybe next week I can go take some pics of it, maybe even a part number.

Dumb question from a kind-of still newbie.... I've got what I'm pretty sure is a stock water pump on my Sy (I don't have the records on the rebuild).... is the pipe plug at the top of the water pump what you guys are tying into to bypass the radiator?

Stock water pump didn't have the aux port like you described.. but yes that is t he port rather then having the heater hose/hard line ran to the radiator.
