Rear axle is off center

There is about 1 1/2" difference between the edge of hte tire on one side from the other. Its always been this way. Any thoughts on why this is? When I lowered the truck I tried to tighten everything up while having the rear held inplace but didnt work. Now that I have my Z06 wheels on Ild like to get it even if possible.

Have you measured from the frame rails to the inside of the tires to see if it is the rear end that is off, or the bed that is off? It could be that the bed is not centered.

It's been discussed before. I'm pretty sure the response was everyone's truck is that way. I'm sure it's beyond searching for the old topic, but it may still be out there. I know bone stock, my truck was that way, and after lowering it, it's not quite as bad, but I'm sure if I looked closely enough I could still spot the difference. I just try to not pay attention.

Yup. My blocks are installed exactly like the tech area says to do. I didnt realize this was a common problem. Oh well.

Mine sticks out further on the passenger side I believe. Most of the trucks I have seen have been this way so i wouldn't worry about. I have even seen Tys this way.

Yeah I just thinks it loks wierd but screw it if it s semi normal. What good is owning a fast ride if you dont race it?

Haha, yeah dude don't worry. I stood there and stared at my truck for like 15 minutes once because it looked like there was something off. Finally figured out that it was the off center thing. I asked a few SyTy buddies and then looked at their trucks and said screw it because most of them had the same deal. :syty:

What you need to do is center the body on the frame. It was so bad on my SS that when i lowered it the wheels on one side were rubbing the wheel wells. It is really not that hard. You will need to lossen all of the body bushing bolts and use a big pry bar to move it around a little until you are happy. It makes you wonder what else GM didnt put on straight too???? Well i hope this helps. paul z.

Yeah I remember at the meet you were tellin me that. The only thing that sucks is if you move the body, won't you have issues with the shifter not coming through the console correctly? I haven't really looked closely enough under there to see what the deal would be, but I'm thinkin I'll worry about it later on down the road.

I would just be worried about the holes not lining up when you try to put the body bushings back in. I dont know if that would make a difference or not.

Dont quote me but if I remember correctly there is actually a reason that the wheels are slightly offset in the rear. Why?...I dont know but like I said dont quote me on that

My Ty was like this. The rear suspension has a broken or dearched leafspring or the front's aren't adjusted so you have equal ride height in the front.

Re: Rear axle is off center

you dont need to remove the body bushing bolts, just losen them. About the shifter cable, there is enough slack to have a good amount of movement left to right... It works, i have done it before and will be doing it on my Sy soon as the bed needs to go about .25" to the right. paul z
