Repro intake tube feeler

I have a good friend who owns a restoration business. He is also a wizard when it comes to fiberglass. I recently started talking to him about making reproductions of the intake tube that runs from the air box to the turbo. You know the one that always breaks and takes out your turbo. Sooner or later they are all going to break, mine just did, and there is no easy replacement out there.

My friend believes that he can make these out of fiberglass. They would look factory and would be much stronger than the factory units. Each one would have to be hand made due to the intricate design. He has made many different custom fiberglass parts for V8 Rangers including a blower to intake tube that handles 15+ psi. We are talking about a non boosted item here so handling boost isn't an issue....I'm just mentioning this to let you know this guy knows what he is doing.

I initially asked him to make one for me but then I thought that there have to be more owners out there who don't want to go through relocating the battery and everything else that is required to do a cone filter type of set up. So I asked him if he would be interested in making these for the masses and he said he would.

The catch here is that these things are going to take a lot of time each to make. He doesn't want to invest that kind of time if there is no interest. His guess is that these intake tubes would be priced in the $200 range. So I am simply asking to see if there is any interest out there.

Re: Repro intake tube feeler

Sounds like a good idea, but the price is a little steep. For that kind of money, relocating the battery would cost less. If they were made, one idea is to offer an extended straight section of tube that would normally go into the airbox for those who want to run a cone or other clamp-on style filter. Mine is barely on the tube. Just some constructive criticism.

Ya, it's got a Turbo
Re: Repro intake tube feeler

$200 is a little pricey, but if it's an OEM looking piece, for those of us that want to keep the stock look, I think it's worth the $$. I'm currently looking for a replacement, cause mine deteriorated this summer.

Fortunately, I caught it before it took out my turbo. Is there a way he could incorporate a flexible portion somewhere near the end that connects to the turbo inlet, for those of us that have non stock turbos?

Well, the amount of views vs responses pretty much answers my question I guess. Bad idea.
