shaft rockers

Looked and looked but I cannot find the answer. What year did the vortec engine start using shaft mount rockers?

I think it's 2001. I know when I was looking a used engine their is a difference between the 01-02 and 99-00 4.3 engines.

Is it worth running aftermarket shaft mount rockers on these heads or will the stock ones be fine?

only if you are going all out. If you are just upgrading to vortecs or a stockish vortec motor then I think not.

I'm planning to put down 600ish to the rear wheels.

I ran the factory vortecs shaft rockers into the 10.60s in my 4,200 lb Typhoon with zero problems.

Flow Tech will tell you that they will outperform a 1.6 roller tip rocker. Stronger also.
