Shocks for a lowered truck??

I hear that Bilsteins are the way to go for our tucks. SoI was doing some research and saw this.... "RWD; 2 Req.; Heavy Duty Setting; Standard Suspension"

So should these not be used on a lowered truck? I have a 4x4 Jimmy with Typhoon AWD that I plan on bell tech keys up front for 5" or so and 3" leaf in the rear with blocks on some 275/40/17s. I know thats low, but hey I want to handle as well! lol

So what shock are you guys running for your lowered trucks. I thought of this when i read the new thread about the bell tech leaf springs.

Any help would be great!

Hay, I have RANCHO on the rears and Billistein on the front. Isn't that a hoot?

Re: Shocks for a lowered truck??

Well mine isnt lowered, but i got Bilsteins all around.

They do sell some Bilstein sports that are designed for a lowered suspension, just not sure how much lower, I thought i ahd the part numbers, but basically if you look on the Bilstein website they list 2 diff shocks for the S-10 4x4 all years use the same shock, and one os the HD and the other is the Sport.

Re: Shocks for a lowered truck??

I just picked up some KYB MonoMax today. They have an application for the Typhoon (even though it's the same part no. as the Jimmy). The design is a monotube (Billsteins may be as well) vs the older twin tube design. The applications are for SUVs, light trucks, and lowered vehicles.

Your truck should sit the same as my Ty with a 2" drop (they used a re-clocked key like the belltechs).

I can post again in a day or two once I have some comments on the ride characteristics.

Re: Shocks for a lowered truck??

I've driven around bit with the MonoMax shocks in the front and I like them very much. Even though we're dealing with a lowered 4wd chassis with 245's, I want to say it rides just like a factory SUV should - not too harsh and definitely not bouncy.

The install on the rears was a PITA. The head on the MonoMax's is very wide and blocks access to the nuts up in the shock tower. I had to use the open end of a wrech up there and a ratchet-wrench on the top piece.

Re: Shocks for a lowered truck??

I have had bilsteins on the last few cars that I have owned and will soon have them on the ty. I started buying them in 96 when I read that bilstein would honor their warranty even if the vehicle was lowered.

I have bought from these guys for the last ~10 years. Always seem to have the lowest price.

IMO, at those levels, you'll be at the EXTREME ends of the shock travel for either Bilstien or KYB.

I currently have beltech springs and 1" blocks and have tried both shocks. they both rode VERY harsh but, i doubt that it's the shocks fault as, the shocks are almost completely compressed at ride height. I'd like to try some shocks for "super slammed" trucks to see if the ride improves.

I was riding on BellTech nitro drop shocks in the rear, hard to say how they rode because I can't remember and I haven't driven the truck in a long time now.
