some questions

if floor mt truck and it siwftly downshifts i overboost. if i get on it and floor it without downshifts it stays at my boost range. i know the chip makes it overboost ,but cant change it now. with boost launches it stays in boost range because it dosent downshift. So i can race it from a boost launch( which i dont do often). But from a roll racing, whats the best way? Because if i can race from a roll without downshitng ill never overboost. So what is the best way to race from a roll....Wait till its in second as low in the rpm i can go without downshifting? i guess downshifting is my problem but i thought downshifting switfly when racing from a roll is bad?

Re: some questions

Any over boost is bad, going from A roll & it down shifts fast is bad. just my .02..

Re: some questions

i take it you have a stock turbo. the biggest problem with them is small waste gate puck. you have to open this up (port it). JS mfg sells a flange to allow for opening up this area, but requires some modifications. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=68089

check it out. the stock turbo is not a bad piece but is prone to overboost with exhaust mods.

do a search on the forum home page and click and read.its your friend.

Re: some questions

You are also running the ATR "strip" chip on pump gas? I wonder if the chip has something to do with it.

its a street chip that runs on 93, the typhoon pitbull strip chip that i sold to somone on the board was a 100 octane plus chip, and he ran 107, mine in my truck is the street chip

Re: some questions

don't race from a roll........ roll racing is worthless in our trucks unless you want to melt up your brake pads very quickly.

what mods are done to the truck's exhaust system? still have a cat and is it gutted or no?

Each truck is different... some can get away with no cat but a muffler and have no overboost or a pound or two at max while others overboost like crazy and can only get away with a striaght through type muffler with stock cat.

Like mentioned above, the overbooast issues is due to the small exhaust housing on the turbo not being able to keep up with free or more flowing them stock exhaust setup and the only way to resolve that outside of a different housing is to port the stocker or don't run such a free flowing exhaust system.

Re: some questions

aight thanks im uprgrading to a pte61 with and external soon, but if i wanted to race from a roll an any gear what would be the best way for performance and the truck?

Roll<2mph (or however fast it registers as you start to push through the brakes)

As long as you're not holding on the line for too long (building tranny heat), boost launches aren't going to be any worse for your transmission than wot downshifts from a roll (likely not nearly as bad).

Re: some questions

I read that downshifting is much worse as it burns up the clutches at WOT whereas a boost launch nothing is moving and the TC is the bit taking the pain.

Lots of WOT downshifts may fry your tranny..

Re: some questions

I hope you have have enough money saved for a tranny. You will be instore for one soon if you keep doing wot downshifts.

Also if you keep overboosting you are going to break some piston lands and then need a motor. I would just drive the truck and enjoy it and not try to show off and race people. If you are going to race take it to the track.

Re: some questions

The boost isn't happening because it downshifts, it's due to the load on the motor at the MPH you're running.
The ATR chips aren't set up to deal with this.

Like everybody said, WOT downshifts are a good way to insure a quick transmission death.

Not to mention, the boost spikes are a good way to get the engine to match the dead trans.

Taking a turn or two out of the WG rod will reduce the spikes. It'll also reduce your overall boost, but your motor will live longer that way.

.

"Roll Racing" is a contradiction in terms. Show me an event where the goal is to out accelerate the other guy while rolling on a track (with no corners).

It's a fabrication by guys with street cars who can't set up their suspension.

Re: some questions

ok, if i goin to wot it while driving how do you go about doing it? just get it in 2nd gear at a decent rpm range where it wont downshift when i floor it?
