spark plug wires melting help

SO i started driving my truck this year and it was running quite well for first time in history until about half way through the day it started runnng rough again, just like it usually did. So upon inspection i noticed three of my brand new taylor "custom fit " wire boots were completely melted cause of the heat from the manifolds, is there any better ones out there as this is the second time i have replced them. Anyone else have this problem?

the only thing i can think of is if you are running lean your exhaust will be hotter, but i would think you would break a piston before you would melt the wire boots.

not running lean, everything is right on par with the dfi

Running lean and mean, especially if you're burning wires with stock manifolds....OR... your timing is way out of wack, which could be both too much advance or too much retard. Most of us with ATR headers have to run fiberglass boot covers. I've gone awhile with ATR and Taylors with the covers, just have to dial in the SpeedPro a little more. I used to change plug wires 3 times a week on my old Sy, but shitty header design and no tuneup will do that.

What heads are you using? How much advance at idle, cruise, etc.?

My first guess is you need more timing.

As a side note check your catalytic converter, when mine went bad I had the following happen.

1) Plug wires melted on pass side 2 back cyl.
2) Exhaust manifold glowing red.
3) ALL TESTING show up as normal.
4) Truck ran great to about 45 mph & fell on it's face after that.

What I found surprised me, the catalytic converter had broken apart inside & part of it acted like a plug in the tail pipe blocking off flow, so the exhaust couldn't get out.

I've got the same problem now. When I get on it, the truck just hesitates. We replaced the coil wire cause that was shorting out against the intake manifold and it's still doing it. I think we're gonna put in some new plug wires and see if that does it.

Any other possibilities?? TPS perhaps?
